I've already gotten in touch with eBay regarding this issue. Here's the email I sent them:
"I am trying to list a Champagne Bottle Recorker for auciton, through
AuctionWatch. I've attempted twice now, and both times, AuctionWatch is
telling me "The venue ebay has possibly returned the following message:
Error 240: Cannot be listed for auction because the title and/or
description contains improper words.
Cannot be listed for auction because the title and/or description
contains improper words." I've looked over the prohibited items list,
and this is NOT alcohol I am listing. It is a bottle recorker, to help
prevent the alcohol a person already owns from becoming stale once
opened. Please let me know how I would go about listing this item, ASAP,
since New Year's Eve is tomorrow night. "
Here's their answer back to me early this morning:
"Thank you for your letter. I am sorry to hear that you are having
problems listing through your third party listing service.
It sounds as if there is a compatibility problem with your listing
service and the eBay site. We can not guaranty that third party listing
services will be compatible with the eBay site.
From time to time it is necessary to make updates or change the Sell
form and other eBay pages. When this happens it is necessary for these
services to make adjustments to their own programming to compensate for
these changes.
I imagine that would be the reason for your difficulty at this time.
Please kindly note that the eBay Sell Your Item form is available for
your listing needs until you are able to utilize your listing services
again. Since this is not a prohibited item you should be able to post
your listing using the form on the site without a problem.
I wish that I could be of more assistance in this matter. We are always
happy to help to the best of our ability."
SOOOOO.........my question is........HOW DO I LIST THIS ITEM? Do I actually have to use eBay's forms, and not use AuctionWatch, at all on this one?
I'm not sure why your listing is not going through - I tested this by listing something with similar wording and in the Wine category directly on eBay, and had no problem. It could be an issue with the API interface - if so, we will have to look into this after Jan. 1.
It's now the new year. I've tried listing this item again, with slightly different wording, and I still can't do it. I get the same message. It's sitting in my pending auction area, errored out. I'm not sure how to list this without calling it a bottle cork of some form, or without mentioning wine or champagne. Any ideas? Any clue as to when this error will be fixed?
