Many of us are trying to figure out how to handle the changes in USPS Shipping rates effective June 30. Normally, I use WBN and include shipping rates. With the change, now I would like to use a WBN congratulaing winner, but with no payment options. That way, I'll get their name & address & be able to calculate shipping charges & then send another email.
It would help, if a WBN could be sent without any shipping charges. Now it seems I will have to manually email each winner & then fill out the forms myself. Sounds like a lot of extra work to me!
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see a change from AW and EBay as well to accommodate the sellers!

What good does it to direct the question to the forum? You haven't replied to it forever - so we have no clue how AW plans to implement this. I have had to make my own shipping chart for my auctions and turn the WBN off. Keep up the silence AW - you are working yourself right out of the market!!!!!!! A very disappoint AW user......

I agree, CORKSMOM, I posted to the forum 6/17 and again today, and still no reply of any kind. I am also changing my listings to be ready for the rate change, and if I go to all this work, only to find out I have to do it all over in a few days, I will really be upset.(to put it mildly) I don't think a progress report is too much to ask with the rates we pay for this service!! If AW has no idea yet of how it plans to modify things at this point in time, then we are all in deep trouble. We are intelligent enough to understand that they may not be able to give us a complete answer at this point, but giving us no information at all is an insult to all of us. At least they appear to be reading new threads, but the old one just sits there with more people getting angry by the day! AW, it's time to get with it, and give us, your paying customers, some consideration......there is a time element at work here!!!!

I'd like to see 2 WBN's, first one to get bidder's name, addy, especially zip. Then we can figure postage and send 2nd WBN.
I've been doing this manually on items over 4 lbs because that was the break previously to zone for Priority Mail. Now I'll have to do it on 100% of my items. It would be GREAT if at least the sending of the first email was automated.

Sigh...
(a) I really like Andale's features of automatically computing EXACT shipping costs at checkout time. Saves me the trouble of having to do it.
(b) I really like AW's Image Hosting features. Andale just wants to nickel and dime someone in that arena.
Now for me, (a + b == perfection) but I strongly doubt that will ever happen.
I de-clare, I'm half-tempted to put my Apache, PHP, XML, and MySQL skills to use and write my own software to do all this for me.
(and for the record, I really love Andale's Gallery features at the bottom of each auction page, but Auction Watch has better Sales Manager Software... Andale has a better Checkout but Auction Watch has a better store....)
Here's an idea:
Start collecting more information from us sellers!
You'll need to collect the packed weight, and packed dimensions for each item we sell. That way you'll be able to compute the shipping charges on our behalf. That's what Andale does, and frankly I think they have a competitive advantage over you guys for doing so.
Both the USPS and UPS have APIs and an SDK which you guys could tie into and get the information literally in miliseconds.
Do you guys want to dominate the market, Auction Watch? Then allowing us the option of charging actual shipping charges and computing them for us at checkout would help put you guys over the top.
Just a thought.

Hi guys and girls, I have been using the following method for 3 years for items over 5 lbs. It has always generated an email from the buyer with a zip code. Now I intend to use it for anything over 1 lb. This should work until AW figures out a better method. In the 4 shipping boxes at the bottom of each listing I check the bottom box and enter the following "TBA ON RECEIPT OF ZIP CODE" in the box above that I check it - enter the insurance amount and enter "OPTIONAL INSURANCE" - this is for unbreakable items only - like clothing. I tell them in my WBN that insurance on breakable items is required. It has never failed me. I just don't seem to get the problems that other sellers complain about in this and other threads relating to the new rates. Try it you'll like it! Steve

That's obvious!

now what does "thats obvious" mean? It seems sarcastic and if so why? I'm just tying to pass on a method that has worked for me to other sellers.

I have edited one of my reminder letters to be my first contact.
It just states that they won and for them to send me their zip so I can do the math. (only written more professionally)
I will then use my charts to get the shipping and plug the information in the WBN and out it goes.
Not as fast as it was before the increase but better than nothing.

Hello everyone,
Please be assured that we are working on getting the upcoming shipping changes incorporated with our system. Unfortunately I do not know how that is going to be done, but I will post updates on the matter as I receive them.

Auctions launched at this point will close and be shipped on the new rates. What is being stated is therefore going to be incorrect. Also Insurance rates are totally out of line with USPS which is the main carrier of ebay goods, break points are $50.01, 100.01 etc. It is impossible to get the correct insurance amount over $50.- currently. The way I now list insurance rates I can either gouge my customer or eat it.

based upon the new insurance rate chart that I have from my PO the rates are as follows.
1) up to $50.00 = $1.30
2) $50.01 to $100.00 = $2.20
3) 100.01 and up add $1.00 for each additional $100.00 in selling price.
Hope this helps, Steve

Yes I'm failiar with the Postal rate but AW breakdown is $.01 to 100 = Whatever
pluse whatever per additional 100.- right now I get $1.10 up to 100.00 but this costs me $2.00 on any that are from $50.01 to $100 and 2.10 over 100 which cost me $3.00. The only alternative is to overcharge the smaller orders. The incremental breakdowns match UPS more closely however most eBay lots are sent via USPS.
