I just received an email about the Archive option alerting me that my items would be soon archived beginning July 8. But then it talks about disabling the Archive feature, which I have already done. Is something happening on July 8th that I need to know about? Are they going to start charging, or will I have to un-check that preference again? It was kind of confusing.

While I'm on this subject, I also would like to add my two cents about this Archive feature. It's fine and dandy, and I understand why you might want to institute it, but why can't you give us a little more power on what time frame we want to remain in the closed files before achiving. I, myself, have pulled things as far back as a year, maybe even more, and I'd like to have the chose to keep items in my closed file for up to a year - not the maximum 3 months that you have set up now.

And if that can't be done, I'd like to see you add a default to the "save to inventory" box that you have on the auction listing page, so we don't have to check each and every time we place something for auction. I personally keep forgetting to check the box, and almost all of my auctions, I'd like to save to inventory.

One last thought - won't most people just start saving everything to inventory that they used to pull from their closed auctions, and so won't you still have the same problem down the road? I might have 5000 auctions in my Closed file right now, but after things start getting archived and a year goes by, I'll now have 5000 items in my inventory file. What's the difference?

Anybody have any comments to add? I haven't seen a lot of messages regarding this on the boards.

I also think the e-mail about the archive is confusing. "The option to disable the auto-archive functionality is offered free for a limited time."

It there going to be a charge later? How much will it be? I really don't need the archive, but it would be nice if I deleted an auction by mistake. Pam

I'm also awaiting an answer to this. The email is confusing. I disabled the auto archive feature, but what do you mean, exactly by "The option to disable the auto-archive functionality is offered free for a limited time."? If I keep mine disabled, are you all of a sudden going to start charging me for that soon?

Hello,

Thank you for your comments - I will pass along the suggestion to make "save to inventory" a default option.

The ability to disable archive is free for a limited time, so eventually there will be a fee involved if you leave this disabled (we will give plenty of notice before we start charging.) Right now, I am not able to give a date or amount, unfortunately.

Thanks again,

Diana

So does this mean if it is enabled there will be no charge? I don't care either way. I just don't want to pay for whatever this is. Pam

If you have auto-archive enabled, there will be no additional fee. Note that we have implemented an archive retrieval function that will allow you to retrieve items for a short time after they are archived, in case you accidently archive something that you need.

I am also confused about the ARCHIVE feature.
It seems to me that an archive is an archive, i.e., you keep that stuff around forever or as long as you want. I have always made it a practice to cut and paste my listings or whatever I thought I might need again--customers' names, prices, etc. What good is an archive that disappears after a while. I think that AW's archive is not too reliable if it's only for 90 days. Why not just do it yourself?!
