had a customer close an auction today and wanted insurance (first time insurance requested). When she tried to link thru checkout to paypal it showed the amount of the item plus the 1.30 insurance, but the priority mail cost was not added in. when i look at the checkout page, it has the full amount. help?? customer says she's tried twice and still no luck.

Hello iceicepenguin,
For some reason, when we pass data to PayPal, the shipping cost is included with the item cost (although insurance may remain separate.) Please check the total at PayPal, and see if the total includes the shipping (this should be the case.) If this is not the case, please let us know, and please provide the item number so that we can investigate.

No, it was just a small sale. Item sold for 1.99 customer wanted insurance 1.30 shipping was 3.85. total was 7.14. customer said paypal total was 3.29.

I have posted about this same issue and another AW rep said that I should mention this in my checkout instructions. She said that there is no fix and that I would just have to alert buyers to add the shipping costs on top of what PayPal asks for when linking to PayPal from the final checkout screen.
If it were not for this I would think checkout worked great. As it is, it completely negates the automated nature of it.
The other rep said she would pass my suggestions on to product development, surely this must be fixable.

Hi there,
Are you by any chance using PayPal's calculated shipping option?
If you use PayPal's "calculated shipping" feature, and also use AuctionWatch's WBN/checkout system, there is a possible issue with the shipping amount specified by AuctionWatch being ignored. (This only affects you if you use PayPal's Calculated Shipping option.)
When a buyer completes checkout at AW, the link they are presented with to go to PayPal passes the item and shipping amounts to be paid; however, IF you have configured your PayPal Profile to use calculated shipping, the shipping value passed in by AuctionWatch will be ignored unless you change your PayPal Profile to allow their calculations to be overridden.
To allow overriding of PayPal shipping calculations, do the following AT PAYPAL:
-Go to the `Shipping Calculations’ page in your Profile
-Click the `Click here to allow transaction-based shipping values to override the profile shipping settings listed above (if profile settings are enabled)’ check box
-Click Save

I went to my Paypal account and when I got there I had no preferences checked at all.
I checked the box you told me to and we'll see what happens.
Maybe you should instruct new members to AW to disable Paypal when they sign up to save others the headache!!

I would like to bring this thread back into focus. I have tried to change my PayPal shipping calculation preferences as described by Diana but it has not fixed the problem.
Again, why can my winning bidders not see their total amount due once they get to PayPal? It shows the winning bid amount plus insurance only. The shipping charge is not calculated in the total that PayPal shows the winner as due. Another AW rep told me to add some text in my WBN reminding bidders to add in the shipping amount once they get to PayPal, why should they have to be bothered? Besides this will cause many headaches. Bidders will be paying me the wrong amount after ignoring, misunderstanding or simply not seeing the message about adding in the shipping costs.
Can a fix please be found for this soon? Without it I do not feel that post sale services are useful, with it they would be perfect for me.
