My question is a simple one:
We charge actual shipping cost for our books. This is pretty standard for many booksellers. So naturally, every auction includes a "default" shipping charge based on what it would cost to send a package weighing (x) lbs via Media Mail within the US. This is simple and straightforward and works well most of the time.
However, anyone in the world can bid on an auction, so naturally winning bidders in a different country are not charged the "default" since they're not in the US. Unfortunately, it appears that AuctionWatch has made no provision to change the shipping cost in the AuctionWatch invoice -- it appears in a "pulldown" menu.
Why? What good is any of this if the seller cannot define the actual price charged the customer? There is no such thing as "one-size-fits-all" shipping. Or am I simply not seeing where you have provided the means to update the invoice to reflect actual charges?

Hi Bdunique,
If you want to charge actual shipping for your items and you aren't using the USPS priority calculated method, then prior to sending out the WBN you will need to find out where your winner is located. You can then update your shipping and handling fields with the exact price and send out the WBN.

Hi Sonya:
Thanks for the prompt reply. With regard to your suggestion that we "find out where your winner is located" -- we're certainly willing to take this extra step if necessary. Is there any provision for doing this within AuctionWatch PSM, or will it be necessary to bring up each auction individually after it closes and try to determine geographical location from there?

Hello,
Unfortuantely there isn't an extra step in PSM that will allow you to do this. Some suggestions would be to put text in your auction telling your winner to email their zip code to you upon close of the auction, or to email them yourself when it closes. Then you can figure out the shipping and send the WBN. Of course the WBN would have to be sent manually.
