I posted a question a couple weeks ago about copying images after I saw my picture in someone elses auction. After I went and put a disable right click code for the images, I find that a different seller has copied my description almost word for word (99%)! I now need a code (if there is one) to prevent copying my description. So here is my suggestion...AW, why not add some codes to your templates so that all your customers that work so hard to create their listings through your service have some extra protection against fraud of both images and descriptions? You could advertise this welcome feature which will surely draw in more users that are sick and tired of being robbed! It's just so frustrating to go through all the work of typing, editing, reviewing, retyping, etc. to make the description sound good and then someone else snatches it with the click of a mouse!

Hello idnyc,
I am sorry to hear about the frustration - unfortunately, however, if someone is determined to copy your description they can simply view the page source and copy it from there even if you have javascript in place to prevent a right-click.
The best way to prevent this is to report the violation to eBay - this does violate their rules and regulations, and I believe that they are fairly responsive to this problem.

Thanks Diana for your immediate response! It's too bad we can't protect our descriptions better...can anything be added to the templates to prevent or at least decrease the chances of image theft then? Like the right-click code with maybe a nice way of saying "no" that pops up when the theives try to right-click?
There are scripts that allow you to do that -- unfortunately I don't have any of them available offhand. The other thing is those scripts only work on IE so people could still download them off netscape. The same issues with viewing the page source also apply. The best way to protect your images is to watermark them in a graphics program with your eBay ID or AW ID so that if someone downloads your image, they will be downloading it with your name on it.
