In the welcome message in the checkout the message given regarding the discount from combined auctions states that the discounted amount for shipping will be given prior to confirmation. I believe that the discounted amount is given after confirmation. I don't believe it's a huge problem as very few buyers read the text but I prefer to be accurate for the minority that can or is willing to read.

It is the default text which displays the rules you use in combining orders. Any of the checkouts with multiple items and displays this text.
What the buyer is confronted with is a list of items with the individual shipping amount to the right.
The shipping discount doesn't post until well into the checkout. Frequently I get an email complaining that there is no discount shown (which there isn't until the final page.
I've added a line to my welcome message explaining the process and when the discount "appears" but few read much if any of the message from what I can gather.
I would much prefer if I could control this portion of the text but the only item I can control is the percenatge the wordage is a default field provided by AW.
Thanks for providing more information on what it is you would like to see. I've logged this as a suggestion for Product Development. You are right to add it in your WBN text for now -- you could try bolding the text, so that it stands out.
