When I post a dutch auction or fixed price auction it doesn't seem like the checkout calculates shipping correctly. It seems like it charges one price when it should calculate based on total weight. I have marked under seller prefence to calculate based on total weight. How can I fix this problem I am losing money on shipping and need to fix asap. Pleas help

Thanks,
Michele

PS I can provide you examples if you would like

Hi Michele,
Can you please provide us an example? We surely need the order ID for the items that cause you the problem. Also, if possible, please include the expected shipping calculation results.

Hi Marius,

Thanks for you assistance in figuring out this problem.

I went through our post sales and found three examples for you.. What's really wierd is that it's not consistent - sometime shipping is calculated fine. Here are the examples. OUr shipping is set up to calculated on total weight and to add .45 mark up to total. I went to the USPS.gov site to calculate shipping.

#1 Order 574420936 purchased 2 items (.10 oz & .09 oz) in combined order total weight should 1.03 lbs. Shipping was calculated at $4.30 I calculated at $6.20

#2 Order 572946869 purchased 4 items in combined order (each listed at .10oz each)total weight should be 2.08 oz. Shipping was calculated at $4.30. I calculated at $10.50

#3 listing 3930656442 - fixed price auction purchased 8 quantities (listed at .10) total weight should be 5lbs. shipping was calculated at $4.30 I calculated at $12.60.

Any help you could provide would be appricated. I don't know if I need to change my setting in auction watch or do my weights differently ... I just don't know.
It would be different if it always acted the same but like I said sometime it calculates shipping correctly.

Please help.
Michele

Hi Michele,

We have looked at the order IDs you kindly provided. We have discovered the reason why the shipping calculations are not correctly calcualted at times. It appears to be a misunderstanding (or error in messaging) on the page where users are required to enter item weight - the messaging says decimals OK. This should be interpreted as "enter the weight in decimal form" (e.g. 1 lbs 8 oz must be entered as 1.5 lbs.)

That's why the shipping seems incorrectly calculated: 0.10 + 0.09 = 0.19 lbs, and not 1.03 lbs.

I am very sorry for the confusion this may have caused. We will try to improve the messaging here or make other changes to eliminate the confusion.

Thanks,

Diana

Hi Diana,

Thanks for the response. Okay I'm not sure how I should be entering weight then. If 1 quantity weights 10 oz how should I be entering it so when multiple quantities are bought the shipping is calculated correctly. I though 10 oz should be .10

Most of the items I list are either 1 pound or I list in oz so when multiple are purchased it can calculate shipping accurately. I didn't want to list everything under 1 pound at a pound cuz sometimes mulitple qty. could = a pound

Please advise so I can review all of my listing and correct any.

Just me again. So if I want to list something that weights 10 oz I should enter 10.0 and if it weight 1 pound it should be 16.0

Is that the way I need to represent my weight so that when multiples are bought it calcualtes shipping correctly.

Sorry I just want to make sure I understand so I can fix any listing neccessary.

Thanks again for you help
Michele

PS feeling kinda dum for such a mistake

Hi Michele,

Our code requires that you enter the weight in lbs only. As 16 oz = 1 lbs, you should compute the weight for e.g. 10 oz as 10/16 = 0.625 lbs.
If you represent the weight this way, we compute the sums correctly if multiple quantities are bought.
In your first example, you entered 0.10 lbs and 0.09 lbs as the weights for the 2 items. THe combined shipping added them decimally, giving a total weight of 0.19 lbs, hence the shipping calculation 'error'
