I'm sorry that happened to you. I am always afraid of something like that happening. All packages that I mail, have Delivery Confirmation and insurance on them. I pay for it, whether the buyer wants it or not.
I agree that sellers have very little protection against buyers.
If you use Stamps.com or Endicia, you don't have to pay $.45 or $.55 for DC. For Priority Mail, it is free and for First Class it is $.13.

Hi, Susan:
Yes, I learned that the hard way too, when a customer did a chargeback on an item that I shipped and she even recognized as receiving. But some other transactions got sucked into the same void where paypal took my money and charged me a $10 fee for the chargeback, even though the buyer herself told them she got the item!! Didn't matter. And since I didn't have the delivery confirmation, I was out of luck. Eventually, the customer did pay for the item and re-reimbursed me for the fee, but that's the lesson I learned. But you know what? I still don't use delivery confirmation. It's already so expensive to ship items that I try to keep the costs down as much as possible, so I can sell my items. I ship about 100 items a week and really don't have any problems. I've used Paypal for several years now, and have only had the one chargeback mentioned above and one reversal due to fraud (out of luck on that one). I use delivery confirmation on high priced items from new members only or upon request. I'm sure there may be certain areas on eBay where there are more unscrupulous buyers, but, I guess, toys are pretty safe. Good luck in your future auctions!
