Hello,

The problem is most likely related to recent changes that eBay made to their category map. Every time eBay updates their category map, we must also update the map on our site. This means that the first time a user visits the category page after an update, we must fetch the new map. Since the category map is fairly large, the time to fetch this page the first time after a category update is noticeably longer than normal. We have added a progress bar, so you should see that an update is taking place.

Note that the update process can take several minutes. Please allow time for the map to update before exiting the page. After the map has been updated, time to access the category page should return to normal.

If you are unable to load the category page, or the progress bar is halted, please try pressing the ctrl+F5 buttons (simultaneously) on your keyboard. This will force a refresh of the page, and may help with the category loading.

If you continue to have trouble after trying this, please let us know.

Regards,

Sonya

Thanks for the reply Sonya but after a refresh there is still no pull down menu. I did see a progress bar for a second and left the page up for a few minutes, still nothing. Is there an update I need? Help, I need to get to work! Thanks again.

Hi Vintagemum,

We have some more suggestions for you to try:

1. First, be sure to clear your browser cache and history. If that does not work, you might want to try an alternate browser, and/or increase the amount of memory associated with your browser's cache.

2. Make sure that you have installed the latest Windows and Internet Explorer updates, and after installing, restart your computer.

3. Disable any programs that might interfere with the page load (such as firewalls or ad filtering software.)

4. eBay has updated their toolbar, and they recommend that in order to restore access to the category tree that you uninstall and then reinstall the toolbar. To uninstall, you may use the Add/Remove programs wizard in Windows. Once uninstalled, go to eBay and click Site Map. Scroll to the bottom and on the left you will see eBay Toolbar. Click to download, and once it is downloaded completely, turn off your computer and then restart it.

5. Edit a pending or closed listing, and click to change the category from within the create listing form. Once this portion of the category tree loads, it may enable you to load the full category list in subsequent listings.

After taking the above steps, if the category selector is still not working properly, please write back with a detailed description of what is happening on the page. Also, you might want to try downloading Sales Manager Pro (our offline listing tool) as a workaround. Sales Manager Pro is included free under all of our payment plans and can be downloaded here:

You may be able to use the SM Pro category selector more successfully. Please let us know if you need help installing SM Pro or getting set up.

Regards,

Sonya

Hello,

In Internet Explorer, look under "Tools" in the top menu bar. Open "Internet Options", and the option to clear the cache will appear under "Temporary Internet Files" in the "General" menu. It is always a good idea to clear the History, as well.

Do this on the page where the category did not load, then press CTRL+F5 keys and that should force them to load. You may however, need to go back over these exact same steps a few times before they come up, but once loaded, they will continue to do so.

Regards,
Christopher

I haven't had this problem but this is the solution that dadostickboy suggested in the other thread that seemed to work:

"Been trying all day just go it to work.

Try this it just worked for me!

Go to the Cat page, click on tools,Inernet options, deleat files...now disable your virus program and your firewall, then click on refresh!

Worked like a charm, I then Enabled:Virus & firewall before I did anything else. "
