Hi, I think I have my sales tax settings correct, but something strange happened today with an order. I am based in Nebraska and have selected to charge 7% sales tax in Nebraska only. Today someone checked out with a billing address in Maryland and a different shipping address (also in Maryland) and the system charged them 7% sales tax?
Are there multiple areas to select sales tax charges or what went wrong on this order? This is only the 2nd checkout I have done through Vendio, the first one was on Friday night and it didn't seem to have problems with sales tax.
Thanks,
Jonathan
P.S. I just had another checkout this afternoon from Massachusetts and it charged sales tax again! What setting do I need to change to correct this ASAP?

It sounds to me like the customer in MD selected the sales tax mistakenly. Our system doesnt' automatically calculate/determine sales tax. It's there so you can offer it to your customers but it's up to them to select it accordingly. Does this help?

Hi, with all due respect, I don't buy that solution. I have had 3 out of state checkouts today and every single one has been charged sales tax and only 1 has actually gone through and submitted payment by PayPal. Their lack of payment may not be due to incorrect taxation at all, but this is a cost that most bidders don't expect so that is not good and will undoubtedly result in abandoned checkouts.
There has to be some way for me to have only Nebraska shipping addresses get charged sales tax, no? This is a feature of every other auction management system I have tried.
Quite frankly, my buyers aren't smart enough to know when sales tax applies to them or not. I have a hard enough time just getting them to complete a basic payment. If it is up to them, then I won't collect tax from Nebraska bidders and I'll have a bunch of tax collected illegally from out of state buyers. I also don't think that 3 out of 3 people would select tax if they are out of state and have the choice to pay this or not. Please investigate this issue further for me.
Please let me know what you suggest or is the only solution to return to my former auction management company?
Thanks.
UPDATE -- I E-mailed one of my customers last night and asked her how easy the Vendio checkout was for her and if she selected the sales tax option or it was automatic. This was her reply:
"I thought Vendio was fairly easy to use also the tax was just added to my
total"
Please look into why this is automatically charged to my out of state bidders or how I can change this setting!

What is the item number where this happened? We will be able to look into this further if we know which item it happened to. Normal behavior is, the customer chooses the sales tax based on instructions you provide. If it is automatically adding it, then something is not right.

Hi, it happened on items 5716749397, 5716793855, 5716842799. All of those items were uploaded from Sales Manager Pro and purchased with Buy It Now.
It did not happen on an auction that closed Friday night that I launched from the online site and did not get purchased on Buy It Now. The item that was totaled correctly was 5716196142.
Would you mind asking your buyers if the tax was automatically added, or if they added it themselves? Unfortunately I am not able to tell as the checkout has been completed for the items you reference.

Hi, I already did this with one customer (item 5716842799) and this was her reply:
"I thought Vendio was fairly easy to use also the tax was just added to my
total, well thanks for replying to me so quick I hope my imput will help
you thanks."
Could this be a glitch with Buy It Now items as these were all BIN's?
