In sales manager, when a customer leaves a note on the checkout, if we hit the "acknowledge receipt of message" button, what actually happens...what do they see?

Hi Susan,
When you acknowledge the message, the note that is yellow with the exclamation point turns white. The winning bidder does not receive anything when this is done.
