I have a fur coat made in the 1920's that is made of primate fur. I want to sell it on Ebay, but can't find out if it's legal or not. I asked Ebay and they gave me the generic runaround...about checking with Feds...etc... I KNOW primates are endangered, but like Ivory, is there some "grandfather" way to sell this coat?

I'm getting fully frustrated with the sidestepping. Maybe I'll just list it and see if "I get my hands slapped".

I'm not sureabout your situation, but I am in Amway not active in it, but I buy for myself. I have motivational tapes I want to get rid of, and Ebay stopped my auction. They told me I was infringing on the companies copy right. To me its no different than buying a Johnny Cash CD listening to it for a little while then re-selling it on E-bay. I'm thinking you wouldn't get arrested for it, but maybe just have your auction stoppped after a day or two, but I did sell some of those tapes, because I got some bids out of it, and the people e-mailed me still wanting what I had to sell. I'm not sure how the public feels about the fur trade, but you could still get alot of bashing, and also I would watch out about selling it to a foriegn country. Good Luck!

Hi,
This is Ebay' stance:

<i>" Animal Pelts and Skins - Animal parts, including pelts and skins from endangered species (e.g., leopards, tigers, cheetahs, jaguars, sable antelopes, mountain zebras and Hartmann mountain zebras) may not be sold in interstate commerce and therefore cannot be listed on eBay. Animal pelts and skins from non-endangered species (e.g., non-protected species of zebras, coyotes) may generally be listed on eBay, if not in violation of the seller's specific state laws.

Other Animal Products - Endangered or protected species, or any part of any endangered or protected species may not be listed on eBay."</i>

Hiya ! I make teddy bears from recycled fur coats. I can't find a way to access your email info (I am a computer nitwit) I might be interested if you cant use EBay My email is [email protected] Thanks! I figure if you cant wear 'em, it is better to still appreciate the sacrifice the animal made (not willingly)as a teddy bear!

Sorry to sound like an activist, but please don't sell fur or ivory. The minute you make a market for this stuff, some guy has to go out and shoot the few animals we have left. (

Just a housewife's opinion.

I won't wear it and I don't buy it.

If you want to sell it, I might suggest that you offer to agree to have the person donate to PETA or ASPCA an amount equal to the winning bid in your name, and they will have to pay all ebay fees + shipping. While you may not make a profit at all, I don't know your intentions as to whether you want to make money or get it out of your house. You might just offer it to PETA or ASPCA instead and take the tax deduction. The tax deduction is much better than having to pay taxes on profits.

Hello,
I would list it. I sell a lot of pelts on e-bay with great success. There are certain pelts you can not sell and e-bay provides information on this. Also look up what is allowed in your state. Hope you sell it with no problems. Good luck!

I listed a white horse collar mirror - meaning the fabric on the horse collar was white canvas, as specified in the description, and got a message on donating anything I get for it to PETA or ASPCA. Is someone here absolutely nuts?

A friend listed a turn-of-the century (1900) bear skin coat and eBay pulled her auction.

I think Ebay will pull Primate fur coat.
I have a friend who sells mounted stuffed animals (Taxidermy) And his stuffed chimp was pulled for restriucted species.

Boy can I ever relate to this...I like to watch for real fur things for ebay because they do sell so good...WELL>> I found a womans suite at my local "chain" used clothing store with a leopard skin collar. It was vintage and it was made in Germany...very pretty outfit in very nice shape. I listed it on ebay and it sold. I did not know it would be such TROUBLE! I didnt even give it a second thought because it went through the auction and no one emailed me or anything to say hey-you are not allowed to do this. So anyway...after the sale I happened to wander into the info area and ran across illegal items and FREAKED when I saw Leopard. Especially that mailing it interstate could be a Federal problem. SO>>> I sent the mans check back (he happened to be a lawyer and wanted the suite sent to his office-this was also scarey because I do not know what his intentions might have been- he could not give me any help with the legal aspects of it) I renigged on my sale, voided his check sent it back and am now waiting to see if he leaves my first negative feedback.
This was very stressful and not worth it...but now I have this beautiful womans suite with leopard skin collar and it doesn't fit me...GOOD thing you are checking into this first and then deciding to sell! Beaver, Ermine and mink sell fine with no trouble...I have sold these.

Just read messages. Was thinking about listing my mouton coat from the 50s. I wonder if this is legal.
