The requirement of a US Bank Account and US address???

Thought a sharing of this might help others with this problem.

I've got a post office box and a US account at Sterling Saving Bank. Minimum deposit of $100.00 and I get a VISA/Check card and No FEES on anything as long as I keep that $100.00 in there.

How about you???

I said repeatedly to myself that I was just going to quit amazon especially as I have seen a tab for auctions for weeks.

....Oh well, I signed up on line for a us bank account . I had tried a few weeks ago with a on line bank with the states but it was too complicated.

However the toronto dominion bank has a Td Powerhouse bank which takes 10 minutes to sign up on line so I signed up. I will miss the deadline Feb 15 but will be able to join one click in about 3 weeks time. Cost $ 6.00 or so a month u.s. unless you are a td bank person already.
You can get a us postal box for about $ 12.00 and never have to use it but that means going across the border.
I am going to use my mother in law's address as amazon only states access to a us address and she can forward any mail but you can click only email on your preferences.
I would really like to try the marketplace and I must admit ~ there are some children's books which sell much better here than on ebay though you can sell some items on ebay.
for a much higher price than amazon! I will check back here and if anyone wishes to know the actual com address for td powerhouse bank online I will write it in on another posting. Good luck to all you canadians, myself included. All amazon really has to do to make auctions much more successful is to have a permanent tab ! EVen a tab that appeared every two days would help. not suz23 anywhere else

what about the US Credit Card criteria???

My Visa/Check or Debit card--even though it doesn't have any Credit amount works like a credit card---but any money I spend with it comes directly out of my bank account

Hi

Do you need the US credit card/debit card? I keep getting mixed messages from the customer/seller service center. I thought that with a US bank account and a "billing" address all should be fine?? I am missing something?
Thanks for any response....

Here goes ~ I have never done this before but I went to the site and copied the http. Boy do I learn alot doing auctions inspite of amazon!
http://www.waterhousebank.com/banking_tour.html
Hope this helps.
I signed up for pro merchant account last month ( which I quickly cancelled) and amazon actually sent me an e-mail ( being a pro merchant and all) with 3 banks but this one took me 10 minutes to sign up an account with no problems except it takes 2 weeks to finalize the account ( have to send papers which must be hand signed.) I don't think you need a U.S. credit card for one click and personally I think the auction scene will die with no tabs EVER EVER showing up for auctions. I am hoping to sell on marketplace~ and state that I will pay extra for s/h in the place where you can describe the book. I think you need a us postal code as I tried to experiment today with market place~ put in my postal code ( canadian ) and was rejected. I can use my mother in law's postal code ~ access according to amazon I hope~ but will ship from Canada . See if that is more fun than the auction scene!

Thanks Suz.

My brokerage accounts are already at TD Waterhouse so it looks like bank account fees will be waived.

I sell paper collectibles (and usually have multiples of same item for sale). I left Amazon zShops last July when the fees quadrupled. I found a home on Yahoo in October and did much better than I had ever done on zShops. All my items are "first bid wins". However, in January Yahoo decided to charge listing fees (which has upset almost all Yahoo sellers - who know that final value fees were the only sensible choice for the Yahoo milieu). The last of my free relists ends tomorrow night.

For the time being, I am moving my unsold inventory (about 600 items) to Yahoo Canada which is still free. There I can list in U.S. dollars, for 10 days with 5 automatic relists - that's 60 days without my having to do anything.

Problem of course is there is no traffic and hardly any listings at all. I am curious if I'll sell anything or if many Canadians browse the site. However, I get a free "booth" (web page which shows my auction listings) which I can custom design and a link I can use to the booth. So the booth becomes my web page and I can show the url in my eBay end-of-auction e-mails.

I am checking this forum from time to time to see what's going on with Amazon. I think I'll wait until Amazon's intentions become more clear though before looking at the Amazon site as a potential place for my goods again. I'm tired of shifting from site to site because of unexpected changes in policy.

HI Irene! I read your thread and I think amazon is only good if you sell books (that's what I sell~ I own about 10,000 books and I love auctions and my husband get rid of some books before you can buy more!) Bidville sounds very popular with yahoo bidders and I am going to buy there ( I collect some type of books just for me!) . Without a permanent tab I think auctions will slowly disappear. Amazon is promoting their own marketplace ( which does look great for some sellers)and I think auctions have take a back set. I did find ebay an interesting site ( in spite of fees ) and lately some of my books have done very well there~ like they used to do on amazon. The reason that I also know that amazon is not good for auctions is that I have listed several times 2 identical items and all have sold better on ebay! and amazon is known for its books! Before this past year, the same items sold way more on amazon than ebay. And my math skills aren't great but even I can see the writing on the wall at this stage. Good luck! Suz23 (no where else)

Hi

I just found this paragraph in the Amazon participation agreements for the 1 click system:

"The Payment Service is available only to individuals and others who meet the terms of eligibility for the Amazon.com online selling community, who have been issued a credit card by a United States bank, and whose applications are acceptable to Amazon.com Payments. Payment Transactions can be credited only to bank checking accounts in the United States"

Again, as of today I STILL haven't received a clear answer from Amazon regarding registration for Canadians. Apparently you only get one chance to apply and if you do not meet the criteria that's it!

Maybe I'm being dense here- but does the TD Powerhouse account give you a US$ checking account?

If so I'll sign up now- I've been with the TD almost forever.

Vorlon4: From the web site, it does appear to be a U.S. dollar checking account. However, I don't like the idea of snail mailing in deposits - if the envelope is lost in transit then it would be kind of awkward to have to go back to buyers asking them to put a stop payment on their checks (and incurring bank charges for it) and requesting another payment.

Yes, the TD Waterhouse bank is a US checking account. You can, however, deposit your US checks/money orders into a Canadian US dollar account with no problem. The US based checking account is just so Amazon can do the ACH payment direct deposit into your account. Mailing checks to the US for deposit would open up a potential Pandora's box of problems.

I just phoned the td powerhouse bank ( U.S.) and they said that they give you a debit card but it is also a visa card so hopefully this meets the requirements for amazon. I signed up on line and I will still be looking for at least 2--3 weeks. You also need to have two pieces of id Photcopied which is nice to now ahead of time as they send papers, that you have to sign + two pieces of id to send them. Here is their 800 number ( I am sure that they will not mind as it is on their website) 1-888-327-9962 Waterhouse TD Line. Suz 23 only here!

I tried to sign up for one click as now you can sign and check up that you will add your chequing account later and of course , the message came up that I applied and can't reapply ( I tried ages ago when one click came up) and I had email about 2 weeks ago ~ could they fix this so I could now register~ NOW when I email seller support ( where amazon actually has where you can click on!) it won't go through, so I go back to my messages on my mail host and find the message saying that amazon will fix this mess! this message was returned as well. I have dealing with this for the last hour! ugh ugh ugh.

The same message came up when I tried to apply as well. I'm not sure how Amazon expects the application to proceed now......I've never been through an application with so many problems and so much misinformation. Bureaucracy at it's worst!

I had actually applied for Amazon Payments back in November---I noticed that they had removed the SSN requirement --and only requested a US Bank, Credit Card and US billing address. I could do that so I applied----
They emailed me the below letter after my application got denied/helf up for more info---I decided to be through and sent them all of the stuff they asked for even though they said 2 was enough---reminded them that the USA Social Security feature was no longer a requirement--but I sent the first five digits on my SIN just to be obliging--and to make sure they knew I was Canadian. My credit card is a Visa/Check card--so I sent them my bank statement instead with an explanation why-- 2 days later I received email notification that I had been approved for Amazon Payments. Below is part of the letter I received and their fax number is there too.

"Thank you for submitting your application to Amazon.com Payments. We were unable to verify some of the information you provided. Before we can complete processing your application, we will need for you to fax
us copies of any two of the following pieces of documentation:

* Your driver's license with your current address
* A recent utility bill with your current address
* The credit card you listed in your application form
* Your most recent credit card statement

We will also need a copy of a voided check to confirm the bank routing information. Please provide your date of birth and the first five digits of your social security number as well.

Please forward this information to us using our secure fax line, 877.243.2913, at your earliest convenience. Once we receive this
information, and your application is finalized, we will contact you via email.

Thank you for your patience while your application is being considered. Please let us know if we may be of further assistance, and thanks for participating in Amazon.com Auctions and zShops.

Best regards,

Matt Vanderburg

I just checked the Amazon announcement board and I noticed that the Feb.15 deadline is not mentioned anymore....it just says that the deadline is sometime in "late February". I wonder if Amazon had to revise it.....has anyone heard anything about this??

Hi Fellow Canadians! I have been selling on Amazon for about 1 year and a half now. I have had all of the same problems that you have had. I feel great that I am not the only one who feels like I have been pounding my head against the wall here! I am finally able to accept 1-Click now. But the duplicate application was solved only after calling them 3 times and spending about 4 hours on the phone with them. They have to unlock the account and manually set it up from thier end. What a mess it has been! I have been having a discussion with them about 1-Click since it started in December 1999. So be patient and call them -- e-mail seems to take them weeks to answer these days.
