How does a moderator determine which thread to lock that "seems to have very little to do with auctions".

There are quite a few and only some get locked. Just wondering how the scales of justice work here.

This one will be locked immediately (with the admonition to take it to the moderator forum).

Hey digitalman--Isn't eBay interesting? (Just to keep this thread eBay related) My ----but just when I thought a diva like Artdoggy and I finally agreed on something--whooosh---it was locked. The fatal mistake was not to mention Ebay or eBay auctions in the response. So from here on out--no matter what the subject or topic I will make sure I mention eBay or eBay Auctions in my response--even if it sounds inane. Gotta keep on topic and if you are in the eBay Outlook by gum say eBay!!!!

edited to add Srg--I have just said eBay enough to make us all gag

sg52 is quite correct - the appropriate Forum for questions like this is the Moderator's Corner.

The thread was locked because it had nothing to do with auctions - if artdoggy and other Users want to discuss Wayne Newton and his infatuation, the circus etc, the discussion should be directed to the Round Table. If I had the ability to move the entire thread rather than lock it, I would have done so. Not possible at AW, so the discussion is locked and asked to continue elsewhere.

If you have any further questions, please post them in the Moderator's Corner.

I am honestly asking were the line is drawn in regards to locking threads in the ebay Outlook.

I read about some lady's husband that broke a $1500.00 doll in some store somewhere, and somebodys trees that were cut down by the power company.........

Is it only auction related, or only ebay auction related, or only the ones that the moderator likes or what?

Weew, (dusting self off) I just went way down to the moderators corner and asked MichelleG to explain this to us here so that all of us will know the policy.

It's not a case of what the Moderator likes or dislikes but more what is appropriate for the auction Forums.

Certainly there are threads open that are not strictly eBay or auction related but instead discuss business dilemmas or scenarios. Because of the real time nature of the Message center, the Moderators cannot possibly read each and every post so sometimes we miss others that are completely off topic.

Artdoggy has been busy posting "fun" threads at AW and if they were discussing her business or eBay activities, we would allow them to remain open provided they stayed within the CGs. When she wants to discuss her circus family or flying nude to see Wayne Newton, it doesn't belong in the EO.

Michelle,
As a long time poster I can say that the topic moderation on this board is just plain silly. It wasn't always this way. People used to be able to post human interest threads and things that brought the community together. Now all of this is banished to that silly "roundtable".

I refuse to go to any forum other than "The eBay Outlook". I just don't have the time to click around and remember to look everywhere.

Since the change, I've noticed that this is less of a community and more of a transient posting board. I recognize very few people from "the old days" and people tend to lose interest quickly and move on.

I know under your current guidelines this post belongs under your silly "Moderators Corner". In posting of 1,624 posts I have never ever been moderated, so I refuse to go there.

I love the moderators here. In general, they've got a great sense of humor, and usually know when an appropriate time is to lock a thread. However, sometimes the threads do get locked just when things are getting interesting...

Oh they're around, just scattered to the wind, and a good many of them aren't speaking to one another anymore. Every so often there's an "old home" week and many of the 'oldtimers' will gather round the ol homestead. A few are even still around..they've just changed their 'hairdo' so maybe you don't recognize them.

I see nothing in the cg's that require postings to be related to anything in particular.

Only that it is up to the moderators to determine if it is unproductive or combative. And yes, they can lock or delete a thread for any or no reason whatsoever.

So, the Moderator's do what they want as far as I can see.

model_citizen,

Your refusal to go to the moderator's corner will result in your moderation.

Can you modify your stance and moderate your tone?

digitalman--see you signed up March 5th of this year. Oh my goodness gracious---you sure missed the good old days of rock em sock em AW. For whatever reason--we can be perfectly civil one moment and go bazonkers the next. Why??? The annoniminity of this site, our agendas? Who knows for sure--but it sure has been a kinder gentler AW since our moderators have been on board full time. Yes AW thanks for that stipend for this message. (Just KIDDING!!!!!) Geesh--another frickin controvery--YES!!!
