Ray, got an email from a friend on the left coast. They were tossed out of bed this morning by it.
"It was 5.2, and caused more damage than normal because of the type of soil
here. it is subject to liquefaction which means the force of the quake is
magnified."

Ray, I tuned in to CNN and saw no news about a quake. I assume it was in California. Do you know where?
My Himself is in Santa Monica and I can't get him on the telephone. All of the circuts are busy. Thanks.

Many of you may want to bookmark this webpage. It's the official US Gov't website where earthquakes are recorded with all the particulars, and it's updated alla the time.

Thanks for the link, radh..
All is well. I am about 20 minutes from San Francisco, but happened to spend the night at my kids, 20 minutes East from where I am...Woke at 1:28 this AM, shaking pretty much...! and it continued for several seconds, which is usually not a good sign...
Drove home later on: no damage in my house...Thank goodness for earthquake putty....

I started a thread in the RT and was hopeing Shosh would sign in there. Glad to know you're OK!
I'm suprised eBay didn't have a down time and blame it on the quake.

Thanks, chococake...very nice of you Yes, all is well, and there was nothing broken when I arrived home...I have several huge pieces of Victorian furniture, close to 8", and always worry: Mollly bolts can pull off plaster...We shall see during the week...after-shocks...

Thank you all very much. The telephone circuts were jammed for a while. I guess a lot of people were trying to call from the East to the West and West to the East.
He finally called to remind me to give the dog his pills, and added by the way there was an earthquake today.... It is a good thing he is cute.

I'm about halfway between SF and the quake center. It woke me up and went on for quite a while. Nothing broke & local news began reporting about it right away.

Any updates? Last I heard, this is one peculiar earthquake, as there have been NO aftershocks, as is typical.
Shoshanah and Valeriet - thanks for checking in here; I heard about the earthquake at about 2 a.m. on the radio (while I was busy in the basement mopping up water after we had a little over 3 inches of rain in maybe 40 minutes.)
Listening to the radio reports confirmed my feelings that I think I'd prefer even the dangerous summer storms, as opposed to what you Californians live with alla the time - all that rattlin' & a rockin' & a rolling, ...NO WAY.

radh there have been after shocks but not really large enough to cause much more damage. I think the largest one was a little over 2. When we had the quake in 1989 the after shocks were awful. They went on for days and some as large as this latest earthquake. It was the most frightful experience I have ever had.
The little boy that was hit in the head by a collasping chimney is still in critical condition. The inspection of buildings is still going on and they are finding more and more damage.

About 50 miles south, I slept right through it. My folks were awakened. I was right at the epicenter of the '89 quake. Now THAT was an earthquake.
KRS was closest. He may have some info, unless the ground opened up and swallowed him whole. (Wishful thinking...)
