If sellers reveal their shipping and handling fees up front, I have no problem. But when they spring them on you after the sale and they are out of this world, I have a problem. I've been getting smarter lately: if the amount of the handling fee is not stated up front, then CLICK. I just clicked on a sale where seller was asking for "reasonable" shipping and handling fees. What do you want to bet that his idea of reasonable and my idea of reasonable are two entirely different ideas? Guess what, his whole concept is unreasonable because it is sneaky. I've noticed a huge trend toward stating the entire shipping fee in the auction description--Hooray for straightforwardness and honesty.

I thought that ebay users ran away screaming into the night everytime they saw that sort of nonsense!
Of course, if eBay would only put up a mandantory section in the listing area that disclosed all fees being charged by the Seller, then we wouldn't have that sort of nonsense. (click http://members.home.com/createwd/disclosure.jpg to see an image of what I mean)

There's a presumption on your part that a fee is unreasonable. It might very well be reasonable--if you are interested ask! (Sometimes that kind of verbiage comes from a previous auction and might not even apply to the one you are looking at.)
I agree that fees ought to be stated upfront. It's a sign of professionalism. However, some of the best deals on eBay come from people who are not knowledgeable.
I do not charge a handling fee--I build a small fudge factor into my flat shipping rates so I don't lose money on expenses related to the shipping process.
