What is the safest way to package LP's that it also cost efficient? I have a friend who is going to sell but just doesn't know how to do it.

well, most of the LP's I've bought have been sent to me in a cardboard mailer that seems to be made for the task and sent Special Standard Rate for anywhere from $1.58-$1.98
I'm assuming the mailers can be obtained from the PO itself, although having never mailed one myself,I cannot be certain.

I get unfolded (& unused ) pizza boxes from my local Pizza Hut. Fold them inside out. Wrap your LP in tissue paper. Cut to pieces of sturdy cardboard a bit bigger than the LP & sandwich it between them, taping them together well. Wrap this sandwich in 2-3 layers of bubblewrap & place in pizza box. Seal the box (I tape the heck out of mine).
I have sent several LPs and laserdiscs using this method--some overseas--and not a single one was damaged in any way.

Best way is to get a LARGE priority box. Lay it flat and wrap LP in newspaper. Slide LP inside the box. Cut one part of the tabs so that you only have the sticky ones. Fold over the flaps that will fold with the sticky part and then cut the other tabs so the rest can go over with tape.

I'm with the pizza box group...records fit perfectly and buyer can save some shipping costs because seller can mail "book rate." I've shipped several this way with 100% success.

Or use two large flat priority boxes taped together with the album in between. That way you have 4 layers of cardboard without cutting.

One cardoard mailer that works especially well is the #S-167 from uline.com --- it is 12 1/2x12 1/2 x 1/2" or 1". This means you can place from one to six lp's or laser discs in it and ship it book rate.
I add a 12 x 12 cardboard liner and one 12" sheet of bubble wrap and the recipients rave about my packing. Takes about all of a minute!
They also make some white CD bubble mailers that are superior to any others on the market - I have NEVER had a damage claim in 600+ shipments! Not all bubble mailers are good quality, these are specially made by Sealed Air, creators of the real jiffy mailers and the real bubble wrap.
I take my fulfillment responsibilities as seriously as my sales.
