Anyone ever have someone cancel a payment they made thru Paypal? Had a bidder get 5 T-Shirts sent payment then cancelled it after I had printed the shirts.I guess I'm lucky I hadn't sent the shirts.

Well, that's something new since I left Paypal. My recollection is that the only way a sender can cancel a payment is if it hasn't yet been accepted by the recipient. If the intended recipient is registered with Paypal, the payment is automatically "accepted," and therefore can't be cancelled.

God, that was clear as mud.

Sigh.

Sometimes the sender doesn't enter the recipient's email address quite right - IOW, puts in a typo. The payment shows up in the sender's history as "Pending". The sender then emails the recipient saying "Hey, why didn't you accept the payment?" The recipient says "Hey, never GOT the payment. Try sending it to the right email address." The sender sends another payment to the correct email address, and then cancels the "pending" payment.

This couldn't be a chargeback, could it? Did you actually see the payment in your Paypal history, and then it disappeared? Or did you never see it, but the sender tell you he cancelled payment?

Interesting.

What was weird about this was I received notice from Paypal I had received the payment yesterday and it was added to my account.Today I get a notice it was cancelled even though the money is still there.I didn't think a payment could be cancelled either. It would be a bummer if you sent the merchandise in the mean time which I would have if it hadn't been the weekend.

Hi,

A payment could only be cancelled if the payment was not claimed. Without knowing all of the details, I am going to assume that the party sent payment to an email address that had a typo in it or that was not registered.

Maybe you sent them an auction payment request and they cancelled THAT?

I send out auction payment requests now via the PayPal page with all of my auctions and EOA's, because of a confusing issue with my eBay username vs. my last name on the PP account, too many people were getting confused so this was easiest.

Anyway, I will have some who know how PayPal works go ahead and pay me their own way,or even before getting my EOA, but not by responding to my auction payment request, then they cancel the request and I get an email saying they've done so.

So, if you sent a request first, this could be what happened. Just speculating.

I had this SAME thing happen to me! Only...I shipped the item the next day and PayPal sent me a notice almost 2 weeks later that the payment had been canceled. The letter I got from PayPal said nothing about it being pending. I just got a notice like all the others saying "you've got cash".

Now my bidder is NARUed (I have no idea how) and I am out the merchandise and the money. PayPal was not helpful at all! They told me that they knew that this problem exists and just hadn't fixed it.

I am very upset that this happened. If they send me an email saying I have cash...I should have cash. If they had sent me an email saying "we believe a buyer has tried to send you money but it is still pending" I would of had a heads up to check things out.

I had herd that some paypal letters were being cut and pasted and sent out to make you think that you had money. I was routinely checking my headers to make sure it was actually from paypal. I didn't realize that I needed to protect myself from paypal as well.

Always check to see if the money is there before acknowledging the email that says you have money. Most of the time it's there.

I have a lot of folks who say they are going to PayPal and they just forget about it.

On the bright side I had a winner this morning who beamed me the money even before I sent an EOA notice.
