I saw on the ebay Soapbox that Bidpay has been hacked when they went down for their scheduled maintenance. I have been unable to find anything about this. Has anyone heard anything? Supposedly if your account was compromised you would be getting an email, but I have not. I just made a large payment on my cc from the Capital One website, this is not something I want to deal with. I just saw that on the news. They said Western Union which would include Bidpay. Didn't give much info except what you said about it happened during maintenance. Wonder if it was an inside job? Someone familar with when and what is scheduled.

My local news had something about Western Union being hacked, don't know if that would affect BidPay or not.

From what I read it is Bidpay only that has been affected. Not supposed to be an inside job, but ya never know. Heather

I believe it was Western Union that was hacked into, NOT BidPay. I've seen similar stories where AOL had the same thing. I don't worry unless they pull a gun, knife, large stick, finger nail clippers, etc. and take the cash out of my wallet.
Makes great news stories, it validates some's fears. Face it, Y2K type stories sell.

I am not all that worried about it, I would not be liable for the charges if something did happen. I just do not want the aggravation. This has been posted before and is a very valid point, a clerk at the gas station, or a restaraunt employee has a better chance of stealing your cc number than you getting it stolen over the internet.

Hi All... this is Marek from BidPay... naturally what happened to WU got some customers pretty excited... "everybody stay in your seats - there is NO FIRE"...
Below is the official email that went out to ALL (goodness that too a long time) registered customers.
Follows...
Since early yesterday we have had a number of inquiries from both buyers and sellers about BidPay's security.
This question came about as a result of a newspaper article about Western Union having some problems with their internet site which made the news in several markets.
BIDPAY AND WESTERN UNION DO NOT SHARE COMPUTER SYSTEMS OR CUSTOMER DATA.
While it is true that BidPay is a client of Western Union and that we use their money orders to send payments to sellers - that is the extent of our business relationship with them.
We DO NOT transmit ANY CUSTOMER CREDIT CARD INFORMATION TO WESTERN UNION.
We purchase BLANK money orders from Western Union and these money orders are filled in by BidPay with the seller information and the amount of the payment.
The ONLY INFORMATION we submit to Western Union is the MONEY ORDER NUMBER and the AMOUNT OF THE TRANSACTION.
ALL CUSTOMER INFORMATION IS MAINTAINED ON BidPay's COMPUTERS IN A HIGHLY ENCRYPTED FORMAT and has NEVER BEEN MADE AVAILABLE TO ANY OUTSIDE SOURCE.
We are sure that Western Union is taking the necessary steps to protect their customer information and making the necessary repairs to their website and we wish them all the best in resolving their problem and we want to assure our customers that this will in NO WAY have any impact on the services that BidPay offers.
With thanks

Hi Heather & LandOtters;
The email was only sent to buyers as they are the only ones who have credit informaiton on file with us.
It is our understanding that WU has taken EXTENSIVE steps to correct the problem and they actually handled the situation rather well considering the nature of the problem.

Hi Marek
I want an e-mail too! Just a suggestion, but wouldn't it be a good idea to have a bulletin page on the Bidpay website just in case your e-mails aren't getting through.
Bidpay has been a god send for me in the last few months as a buyer and I am looking forward to the same effect on my sales. Keep me smiling!

Arabian!
An excellent suggestion. I will send a note over to our tech guys and ask them to put something into place.
Regards
