Dear Jewelry Folks,

I know about as much about jewelry as I do about my car, and all I know about the car is that it is blue.

I came across a bracelet marked Bogoff about 2 years ago. (Since it is my auction I guess I can talk about it?)

It came from an estate of a well known woman here in DC. Her daughter told me where her Mother had gotten it and that it was made in a limited number. I thanked her and put it in a box.

I had no idea of who or what Bogoff was and pretty much forgot about it. I found it recently and since it is an election year, I put it up. I thought it was interesting and would get bids because it is sort of cute.

It took a while for it to be indexed in search but I have now gotten 3 emails asking me to end the auction. One said "What will it take" from a person who has 2 jewelry websites and sells on every auction site I can find.

What the heck is Bogoff and why do these people want this so badly??

BTW: No one has bid on this auction.

One of my books states that Bogoff jewelry was founded in Chicago in 1946. It says that it is a high quality and may have been manufactured in limited quantities as it is not very common in the collectible market.

If you are receiving requests to end the auction it is probably a good sign that your piece will do rather well.

I concur with shaani,if you've had inquiries about it that's a good sign - don't let them brow-beat you into ending the auction -

When I used to sell costume jewelry I would have people email me all the time and ask me to end certain auctions. I would say no, they would go ahead and bid and then inevitably get outbid by a 'collector' and not a dealer.

My opinion is that no one is bidding on it because they don't want to draw any un-necessary attention to it before the end of the auction.

Bogoff produced nice quality costume jewelry and I'm sure you'll get a pretty good price for it. If they want it bad enough they will bid.

I would by no means consider myself an expert .. and having just awaken from an evening nap, may not make sense, but ....

Since you have no bids, I would revise the title to read BOGOFF I LIKE IKE Souvenir Bracelet Ltd Ed , and then I would move it to the political category.

But that's just what I would do.

Well, THAT'S attractive!

Thank you very much. I thought it might be something like this but I wasn't sure. I never end auctions. I think it is tacky to ask and I think too that some people try to take advantage. One message said it would make a cute gift and would be needed ASAP. (Like I beleive that.)

I only had this happen once before. I bid on and won something I knew was very valuable. I put in a really high fair bid too but it ended low. Within an hour I had 6 messages about buying it. One from a guy who said he missed bidding and would take it off my hands for $$$. He knew it wasn't worth that much but it matched one his mother had gotten from K Mart and he wanted to give it as a gift.

It was resold for more than $1,000. I really don't like slimy people.I would rather give it to someone for a lot less than deal with people who pull this crap.

So anyway, the next time I see Bogoff I'll make sure I grab it. This is a bracelet that was given out in 1952 to Presidential supporters in limited numbers and is nice quality. Thanks again.

Anggellene haven't seen you around the Boards.

Definately follow Noteyes advice. There will be a frenzy of bids in the political section.

Noteye: I thought about this when I listed it but I thought that Political collectors would know about as much about jewelry as I do and would pass it by.

Do jewelry buyers search by maker name? If they do then this would cover both possibilites, jewelry and political. I just wasn't sure and opted for jewelry. But then I didn't think it would have much interest either way.

Thanks. I will move it and see what happens.

Ok: I moved it and changed the title. Geez, it has been so long since I used the eBay revise an item form. I had to turn on Java and scripting to get the category selections to appear.

Thanks all. We shall see what happens.

something that bugs me, and sorry but the only relation it has to your bracelet - is your bracelet triggered the thought - does anyone know the significance of the period after the 'I' in 'I. LIKE IKE'?

Just putting in my 2 cents as a costume jewelry collector. Yes, we do search on maker name, category, anything we can think of that will take us to jewelry. What a find!

Noteye: I didn't notice the dot or period before. Beats me. It doesn't look like a design element and it does look as if it was put there on purpose.

The folks at the RNC are pretty busy these days. But I am going to try to find more information. (I am supposed to be an historian after all).

I found a wonderful AN bronze plaque commemorating a dinner in 1901 held by the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick that has an image of Teddy Roosevelt. I was able to find out was from their annual dinner in New York at Delmonicos and TR was the guest of honor. I was even able to find a copy of the speech he gave that night.

I should be able to find out about a 1952 event like a Presidential election. It was in all of the papers... Thanks again all.
