to pending in the space of 2 hours! I requested they send me a check for some funds I still had in my account, and they sent me a verification the transaction was completed. Now I go to my account and it has changed to pending! I have 4 packages to go out tomorrow, and I think I will contact my sellers and tell them, what is going on, have them take back their payments and send me a check! Can they cancel their credit card payment for the product, and do it that way??

edited to add... or would it be wise to upgrade, pay them their .25 or whatever...each on the 4 transactions, and then cancel both accounts and revise my auctions to reflect their bait and switch? What would be easier on the customers at this point? We need some answers and I think we are not going to like them, so we must get prepared and get organized.

Furkidmom,

I haven't decided what I will do yet but I know I am leaving Paypal. I don't get my panties in a wad very often.....but I am angry about this bait and switch and that is exactly what it is.

Hi,

We are not holding money until users decide to upgrade. It would sit in a processing stage until the file downloads tomorrow.

This is not a bait and switch. We have always said that the person-to-person payments would be free and that those conducting ecommerce (businesses) need to be registered as businesses.

Damon..you said

"We have always said that the person-to-person payments would be free and that those conducting ecommerce (businesses)

NO..paypal did not always say those conducting businesses need to be registered as business.

At first Paypal did not require anyone to register as a business...there was no such thing as a business account.

At first it was touted as a way for buyers at on line person-to person auction sites to pay for their purchases and a way for sellers at person-to-person auction sites to accept payments (especially credit card payments). Right from the beginning paypal had logos to insert into auctions...we were encouraged to insert those logos. We..sellers..were encouraged to insert those logos on our auction pages.

At the same time, the paypal pages gave reasons why a buyer or seller should use paypal for auction transactions...and it was stated it was free for both buyer and sellers...and would always be free.

Paypal courted the auction sellers and made no mention of them being regarded as businesses..nor that the sellers would be treated any differently than buyers.

The distinction about "businesses" wasn't made until June of this year...long after paypal "hooked" the fish. And even then, we were ASSURED NO ONE would be forced into a business account. Now the paypal page makes a veiled threat that if we don't upgrade to a "fee based", paypal is investigating ways to "make" us.

Whats worse is that the focus has gone from "business" having to pay a fee to "anyone who is the recipient of money from any exchange of goods" having to upgrade to a fee based account...even if they are only selling one item a month from their attic.
