For the time being (and it may be a short time at that) I've decided to stick with PayPal, and signed up for a biz account.

For some reason, nothing on their site tells me how they bill for charges. Do they just charge your CC or take from money in the account? And do they do this on each and every transaction or do they do this monthly?

FWIW, I made my decision based on the fact that about half of my customers use this service. Like it or not, I must consider their needs in my choices. PayPal is very easy for them and me to use and the referrals are a plus.

I do wish that they would have given us more of a notice and I don't care for the manner in which it was served upon us. They get an F minus for this one.

Hmmm... isn't that a little like signing a blank cheque? Or, better yet, isn't it EXACTLY like signing a contract without knowing what it's going to cost you.

Not a great way to start a biz account

Hope PayPal doesn't try to regain their lost revenue from you

Good luck.

I know what the charges are, I just don't know how they are doing it.

They won't get rich off me.

They get an F minus and you still wanna do business with them?

I don't know how they plan to charge their fees, and like you don't like that it is NOT outlined more clearly.

If you are looking for 'ease' - just send me your credit card info and I'll see that it is all taken care of. Don't worry about it, I wouldn't cheat ya'.

Well, THAT'S attractive!

Here's another question for you to consider.
What happens whenen a customer mistakenly hits the send button too many times and you get their payment TWICE?
Of course, you refund the overpayment on your customer's error.
But does PayPal refund your fees on that second, mistaken payment that you had to return?

Do you believe they should?

mballai: The charge is deducted from each
payment transaction. Your history screen will show you the total payment received, next column will be the amount charge, third column is the total in your account for
that transaction. PayPal has worked great for
us and we are pleased with their service. We use many other payment services, but so far PayPal has been #1.

I was thinking along those same lines just before I read your post. Many of my customers pay by Paypal. I wouldn't want to deprive them of an important tool. For me, the main issue is trust. Also, I wonder if Paypal is a necessity, or just a convenience.

It does appear that customers love Paypal. But do they really love it, or is that just an impression I have? Remember when they started giving out $10 to anyone who would sign up? I don't know how many requests I got from customers asking me to sign up SO THEY COULD GET THE REFERRAL FEE. So let's separate the service itself from the draw of the referral bonus.

Another factor is the question of chargebacks. By allowing chargebacks, Paypal has taken away my option of selling an item "as is." That is basically the format I use for my auctions, and while I do offer refunds in some cases, I think that should be my choice. Not Paypal's. I think their support rep was very evasive with regards to questions about chargebacks, and I'm really not comfortable with them "direct undepositing" monies from my checking account. When I hear Paypal's rep saying "we would never do that" it just makes me want to clean out my checking account and hide the money under my pillow.

What it boils down to, for me, is that accepting credit cards is a convenience I have been able to offer customers. Now that convenience will cost me upwards of $100 per month. Last month I signed on with U-Pic and that service will cost me $200 per month. The cost of Paypal alone might be enough to discourage me, but I doubt it. The overriding factor is my lack of trust and faith in Paypal. They have lied to me and are still lying. Damon can argue the benefits 'til he's blue in the face, but it won't restore my faith in Paypal.

(Let's see ... 2 million sellers times $1000 per year ... that's a tidy nest egg for Paypal.)

Yes, I do. You don't?

Everyone,

Once again, threads concerning PayPal are dominating the eBay Outlook. I am going to lock this thread as well as several others, and ask that you confine your comments concerning PayPal to the one PayPal thread that will be left open in the eBay Outlook, or start a new thread in the Partner Services Forum.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Pat
