I bought a goblet over the weekend am I'm trying to find out if it's sterling silver or not, but I have had no luck getting information on the maker, perhaps someone can help. Markings on the bottom are: Roma, S.L ; EP ; SS ; and Madrid, Spain. Any help would be appreciated. The goblet stands 6" tall and has a leaf design on stem. Thanks.

I think European silver has the number 975 stamped on it. Others may know more, but any European sterling silver I have ever seen has 975 stamped on it.

Run the edge of the goblet along some white paper on a hard tabletop or counter. Sterling silver should leave a gray line.
However, this could also mean the item is sterling plated. Is there any sign of wear or gold brass showing anywhere?

That "EP" in the mark indicates that it's silverplate. If it was sterling, it would either say "sterling" or "coin silver", bear hallmarks indicating sterling, or, as smw indicates, be stamped with a number indicating its silver content.

You may find some help on this site, though it pertains mostly to Hallmarked silver. There are some interesting links and perhaps an email address of someone who could help:
(I just clicked on the above link and it seems to load a blank page. Not sure if anyone else is having this problem. Checked the url and it is correct, so you may need to register to use this site.)
