And somebody somewhere might give a rats if ebay was functioning. Which it isn't, least not on the East Coast!

Given the state of current events, these "free" counters will probably soon cost 1.9% per hit!

Actually, what do you all think of counters as a selling tool? They interest me from a traffic standpoint, but I prefer invisible counters.

"We believe counters are the gateway service," Shah said. "They introduce you to the merchants that will have the desire to consume other auction management services."

Does anyone have any idea what this could possibly mean?

millicent_roberts: Yes, I'm certainly that Scott and alla the folks at Honesty are genuinely pleased, maybe even proud, (??), lol, but at least gratified, that the premier number one online ecommerce corporation, EBAY has acknowledged the superiority of the Honesty counters.

james: ya know how marijuana is identified by the press as a "gateway drug"??

Well, sellers usually try a COUNTER as their very first foray into the wide wide world of auction management tools, nowadays, a multi-billion dollar industry.

So, the auction management tools websites realize that COUNTERS are very werry important, as after trying them out, sellers are very inclined to check out alla the other auction management tools.

Radh..Honesty's counters have been intregated with Auction Assistant for some time now..and AA is owned by Ebay so this latest isn't surprising to me.

Ebay hasn't recognized honesty's superiority, rather they've recognized about 3 million in revenue. You can bet Andale/honesty paid at least that for the privilege of doing what they've been doing for free anyway. All this means is tighter integration and bragging rights, that's all.

mballai: Over at OTWA.com, both Scott and Crystal stated that COUNTERS will remain a FREE-of-charge service by Honesty.com.

radh you're welcome. I aim to please.

I'm a businessman, and so is auctionwatch, honest, andale, auctionrover, ebay, amazon, etc. It's obvious to me what's here, that's all. As for joining, I've always been a reader, not a poster. Just think that the crowd is sometimes too hostile that's all. Please feel free to prove me wrong.

Radh..LOL! I didn't think YOU were surprised!

You just said...

" Over at OTWA.com, both Scott and Crystal stated that COUNTERS will remain a FREE-of-charge service by Honesty.com."

As I think Scott is a very ethical person..when HE says "Always free" I BELIEVE him (which is more than I can say for Paypal).

HEY SCOTT...WAY TO GO!!!

amy: I seriously believe that eBay will offer a HUGE number of FREE online auction management tools to alla their sellers.

SERIOUSLY.

n0 kiDDinG!

And I predict that the F=R=E=E eBay-based OnlineAuction Magagement Toolz will be free, somewhere down the road, when alla the HUNDREDS of separate online auction manager sites find that the vulture capitalists are NO longer gonna foot the bill, and so they have to charge for their services.

That's when eBay will unleash FREE SERVICES, lolololololol

coorango: I am hoping that the next SEC Filing contains FACTS about this agreement, but until I see the financial FACTS, I would rather not comment, as Scott has been a lonnnnnnG-erm member of the OAI, and I believe it is FINE for him to brag about this fine new eBay-feather in his cap, LOL.

Besides, Scott initially got into these counters to PROVIDE A SERVICE to fellow sellers -- and its just fine by me if someone with this as his chief distinguishing MOTIVATION to start honesty.com, ends uP *winning*, as 100s of other OAI-Management websites look upon US as cattle to make mooo-Lah offa, LOLOL!

hmm. I remember a while back that ebay was thinking about taking away our ability to append to our auction listings because that feature was giving their new database structure some major problems. i.e. one of the reasons listings aren't showing up in our "view sellers other auctions" and seller search.

So anyways who out there is appending to 30%+ of all eBay auctions, a HUGE database hit, ... Honesty. So now who does eBay do a deal with? Honesty

Looks to me like they are killing two birds with one stone. Getting rid of a big source of database updates, and getting some $$$ from Honesty.com for the privilege.

Hmm, maybe we'll soon see a deal with our beloved back stabbing PayPal since they are the other service that is appending to 30%+ of ebays listings.

Why would Honesty pay $3million for the privelige of offering a free service? Even to get added exposure to their fee based tool sets, it doesn't really track... Yes, we'll all look over the SEC filings...

ebaY adds functionality. Honesty gets a bigger presence on the site. Adding counters to the listing page isn't exactly like paying for advertising...

I wonder when AuctionWatch will find a successful revenue model beyond Venture Capital infusions?

They'll find it when they let us start listing and bidding here.

toyranch: NO where in any of the news articles does it state that Honesty/Andale PAID any money, much less three million to eBay.

Coorango registered today specifically to state his OPINION about this agreement.

Coorango stated, "You can bet..." that this happened; however, this is only coorango's CONJECTURE -- nowhere in the press accounts does it state ANY monetary figures in regards to this deal, by either eBay 0R Honesty 0R Andale.

I think eBay is doing this because they will
soon stop letting people append to their listings.

Consider this scenario.

eBay may want to kill off appending to listings, we know they've already considered it and mentioned it on their announcement board about 3 weeks ago.

What two things do the most appending:
1.) Honesty
2.) PayPal

They just took care of #1.

Since they have Billpoint and people are pretty ticked off with PayPal right now does anyone want to place their bets that we'll soon see eBay remove our ability to append to listings?

Or am I just being paranoid?

An apple never falls very far from its tree, and the SEED that developed this particular tree can be found in the name of the company, itself: Honesty

I am delighted that eBay has provided this type of AFFIRMATION for a small eBiz, which indeed, may be said to be an eBay Born n' Bred Microbusiness turned small eBiz.

I once again extend my congratulations to Scott and his staff at Honesty.com and to Jim and Crystal of Otwa.com, and it will take a strenuously huge amount of change upon their parts for any of these people to rouse my suspicions.

Meantime, I hope that the SEC Filings state NOTHING about any of this.

Why?

Because, as far as I'm concerned, what Scott does with HIS business is absolutely NONE of my business.

"We believe counters are the gateway service," Shah said. "They introduce you to the merchants that will have the desire to consume other auction management services."

Well ....... the merchants with the desire to consume other auction management services must be suffering from a new eating disorder brought on by the stress of dealing with eBay.

Since I use Rubylane, and build it into my HTML, am I to understand that eBay will "boot" these auctions?....anybody have a "sorta" definitive answer?

Are they REALLY gonna read all of the auctions to search for html codes leading to somewhere else other than Honesty?

"Andale and eBay Sign Exclusive Agreement"

Yawn... Who cares? Counters are almost useless. I never use counters, the only things that matter to me are winning bid amount, # of bids, and bid retractions, etc. etc. Auction counters bore me. It doesn't matter that I know how many people visited my auction... What would I do with this information anyway?
