I've noticed in some ads for FireKing jade-ite it will say it has 'straw marks',
what exactly is that? Also I've noticed a few white flecks in some of my jadeite. Is that typical?

what they referring to is pits in glass, like if you use a straw in a milkshake and and you see a small hole on top, like of looks the same just not a real hole in the glass. I think thats what tey're talking about

I was under the impression that "straw marks" refer to those manufacturing flaws that look like lines or folds in the glass. If I remember correctly, the term comes from the fact that in early glassmaking practice, pieces were put on straw to cool. If the glass was put down while it was still too hot, the straw left imprints or "straw marks" on the glass.

pickersangel is right. Straw marks can normally be felt as they are either slightly raised or indented lines that resemble a strand of hair or straw.
Jadite commonly has small spots that lack color. Collectors aren't particularly fond of them I have found.

I've noticed I can hold a piece up to the light and I see lines that almost look like cracks but I'm pretty sure they are not cracks. Is that straw marks?
