The last time I ordered and received boxes was about Oct or Nov of 1999. I received the first shipment of a recently ordered boxes and discovered the rumors are true. For about 8 months in this forum and other groups, I have been hearing the "rumors" of priority boxes having printed inside "USPS" so people can't turn the boxes inside out!
Is it my imagination that the boxes are thinner? I compared the new boxes with the old and they seem to be about the same but yet the new ones just seem thinner? Anyone?

The new boxes are definately thinner. I still have a supply of the older boxes and there is quite a difference. Low bid!

So it isn't my imagination!
In the last few days in another thread a poster was complaining of the boxes not being very sturdy. Now I know why!

I just order a bunch of boxes and some of the larger ones don't have that shiny surface to them anymore. I know they used to when I went to the PO to pick them up. I just started selling and didn't notice a difference in thickness. The thinner the better though. I can always stuff more packaging in and not worry about the weight.

I've been having trouble getting USPS to send me the boxes I've ordered the last couple months. They send the tape & labels & Tyvek envelopes, so I know the whole order isn't just drifting around in etherworld. But no boxes ever arrive! Anyone else having this problem?
And I thought it was my imagination that they were getting thinner. The big joke is that even their own instructions go on & on about how important it is to use STURDY, CORRUGATED boxes to pack your items and make sure they are taped with STRONG, REINFORCED tape. Have you noticed how super-thin their tape has gotten, too?! And it's neer been reinforced. What a joke!

I absolutely can't stand their new boxes! The video boxes are so flimsy that you have to reinforce them with their burnt-chocolate-smelling tape (ewww) at both the flap and the sides where the tabs go in.
(Does that tape smell retched, or is it just me? No, wait. Don't answer that!!! )
I'm glad I still have a few of the older boxes for more fragile shipments, but eventually those will run out.

And all that taping adds to the weight!

Maybe I am just spastic, but I always end up sticking that super-thin USPS tape all over everything in the immediate vicinity when I am packing!
Free is free, so I will use it happily...and then remove the 3 or 4 additional feet of tape from myself and the floor and the baby and...

I'll do you one better! I'd be happy if they could just get the order right! I order ONE case and they send me EIGHT! I order stuff that NEVER comes (they send me something I DIDN'T order instead!)...I re-order the stuff I need again and I receive HALF of it plus MORE stuff I DIDN'T order! I went back to re-order the stuff I STILL don't have and now they say I'm NOT registered! I GIVE UP!

The "Allow 10 days" is a joke, too. My orders take at least 14 days, and then arrive in bits and pieces. Right now, I'm waiting on my first order since I returned the card I had to sign to promise that I wouldn't use the free material for anything but Priority mail shipping. (Y'all had to do that, right???) I figure that, with my luck, it probably got lost in the mail, and they're holding my order. Hadn't noticed a smell to the tape, but there are lots of worse things than burnt chocolate. Thinner doesn't necessarily mean "less sturdy", as long as the integrity of the corrugation isn't compromised and there is adequate padding material around the item, e.g. packing peanuts. Think of it as packing in a football (after all, some USPS employees seem to). As long as the stuff is free, I'm not gonna b*tch.

I'm not worried about the weight. That's figured into the shipping cost anyhow. What I AM worried about is the shape the item arrives in! These NON_corrugated boxes they are giving us are barely stronger than a dress box. I self-insure most of my items and pay for the insurance myself on the rest, so it DOES matter to me that they are packed right. I have ended up having to double-box almost everything but clothing (which goes in Tyvek anyhow to keep weight down!)
debtrek & pickersangel: Thanks for telling me I'm not alone on my problems getting supplies! I got the "You're not registered" screen, too, last time I tried to order, but wouldn't let me re-register, as I was "already registered". Thought maybe they had suspended me without notice because I order too often (but never get the stuff!)
I was beginning to suspect that my PO was just hanging on to my supplies since they can't get them themselves. (Is it still mail theft if it's the PO itself doing the sending and the stealing??) But if you sometimes are getting EXTRA supplies, I guess that's not the case.
Well, I guess I'm off to try again. Maybe it'll recognize me now.
