I was just checking someone's feedback and noticed a little ID checkmark, which is the "ID Verify" icon. Is this new?? I've never seen it before.

It's a "service" that Ebay offers which supposedly assures that the users identity has been checked and verified. A great idea on the surface, but I decided not to participate when I found out that, in addition to costing $5.00, they want access to your Equifax credit history so they can ask you questions about it. Your answers to those questions will verify your identity. No thanks....Ebay doesn't need to know THAT much about me. They can call me on the phone, or come visit me any day and I'll show them my driver's license.

The ID Verify isn't a bad idea. I'd use it except for 5 reasons. $1,$1,$1,$1,and $1. EBay has billed me at my credit card long enough that should validate me, so I don't understand paying $5 to get the checkmark. If I could supply info that would get me the check I'd do it, hell my info is all over the net anyway, I don't even mind being "Winston Smith." I just don't want to pay $5.

Oh... and by the way, that $5.00 fee is ANNUAL... ya gottar RENEW every year for $5.00 if you want everyone to know you're still you. (duh)

well,I did the whole ID Verify thing and no problem...since I don't have a CC,it's the only way I could get into selling on eBay...why don't I have a CC? well that's a whole 'nother nightmare that we're better off not getting into!

For those people who want to sell and don't have a credit card, ID Verify is a good option. For those people who have 0 feedback and want to provide potential bidders with a little more security, it's a good option.

eBay DOES NOT receive any of the information that you give during the verification process.
You are transferred to Equifax's secure site. You are asked to verify information that is already in their database.
This process does not involve giving ANYONE any information that they do not already have, and eBay only receives notification of whether or not you have been verified.
