Is anyone aware of any places that will allow me to accept credit cards as auction payments that would not require that I register with a credit card or bank account?

The only one I know of is CCNow. But the commission rate is 9%.

I don't know if Billpoint requires a credit card. If it doesn't it would be a much better deal.

Usurious, I agree. But at least you know beforehand that they're planning on performing a proctology exam on you...whereas certain other "services" come from behind and start off by telling you they're just going to give you a hug...

CCNow is 9%. No question the rate is very high for auction sellers. CCNow is a reputable company that was one of the first to offer CC services for small sellers starting on the Internet.

I sat down and figured the app fees, equipment fees, monthly fees, per transaction fees, and all of the other fees involved in applying for a merchant account, and maintaining a merchant account. Then there is the shopping cart software, the credit card processing software, or services, web design with cgi scripts, and on and on ...

For a small business starting on the web the pay back for the investment to get a merchant account for their web site, (assuming they could get an account with no prior history) came out to something like doing about $1,000 in sales for anywhere from a year to 18 months. Then there is the time to maintain a merchant account with a one or two person shop, then there is....

For the nine percent you get to accept all major cards, nationally and internationally. You get a cart system , help with the cgi scripts to set it up, and secure server card processing. All of the record keeping is done and can be printed out from your account summary. There is also some advertising of web merchants who accept CCNow. Customer support is excellent. CCNow has both seller and buyer protections. You also know who you are dealing with and the system is reliable.

CCNow was not designed for auction selling and CCNow didn't court auction sellers. CCNow created a program for auction sellers to accept credit cards after requests from a few posters here. A rep came here and listened to the pleas of sellers and set a up a system in a matter of days, a good easy to use system. A lot of sellers signed up at 9% and were grateful to be able to accept credit cards.

Then PayPal came along......

I signed up with ProPay that AW pushes. They are real nice and I do not remember having to give a card for them. They charge about 3.5% I believe - just working from memory. You can process foreign cards OK. They are a regular card company and will take charge backs - so you want to know your customer. I put in an order for the Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands last week and it went fine.
