Gotta hand it to this guy. He hasn't sent any money yet, but at least his emails are entertaining.
"Hi _______!
I've got the cash.....but I prefer to use a Postal Money order, but my 95
Mustang is in the shop getting a new motor put in it because of Head
gaskets....(A problem they are having with 95 3.8 liter Motors in the Winstar
Vans, Thunderbirds, and Mustangs)......Because of early headgasket Failer,
Ford has extended the Manufacture Warranty on these vehicals, so the good
news it won't cost ne anything, but it's taking longer then I expected (Three
weeks yesterday and they STILL haven't put the motor in), so I've been having
to ride with the wife and her schedule is different then mine so I haven't
been able to leave work before the post office closes. But I NEED to send
you this payment before you get really mad....I have always paid each and
everyone of my auctions in the past (See <deleted> Posi feedbacks and ZERO
negs).....So I tell you what I will do. The Lobby to the post office is open
all the time for the people that have Post office Boxes, and there is usually
Priority Mail Envelopes laying on the counter in the lobby. So what I'll do
is either send cash or get a Money Order from Winn-Dixie Grocery Store, they
carry Western Union M.O.'s, and I'll get a Priority Mail envelope and stick
ten 33 cent stamps on it and drop your payment in their cubd side blue
mailbox tonight. That way when they open in the morning at 9, they will get
it and send it your way.
I would go there in the morning myself and get a Postal Money Order but I
have my hands tied then too. My wife and I are Boyscout leaders in Pack (deleted), (deleted), We have to be at the church at 8am because we
are taking our boyscout den fishing at a fishing derby at 9. My saturdays
seem to be tied up too.
Normally I go to the post office the next day or so after the auction closes
or email instuctions have been recieved and take care of everything. But I
usually have my car and get off work in time too.
Have you ever seen that Ugly Duckling commercial where they say "Life without
a car just plain S@cks" ? I think that I am starting to relate! This really
bites not having a ride, but at least I'm getting a whole new motor for free!
Actually I had planned on doing this tonight before I read your email, and
then was going to send you an email and let you know that it had been sent,
but I checked my mail when I got home (Just now 6pm) and read yours.
Sorry for the delay.
Thanks!
______"
and then a few minutes later he sent this:
"See, I didn't plan on doing this atfirst because a friend of mine has a 95
Winstar van and it only took him a week to get a new motor put in, but he
went to (deleted) Ford.....I went to (deleted) Ford.....I didn't realize it
was going to take THIS long to get the Mustang back, or I would have already
went ahead and got an M.O. from Winn-Dixie. \"
Wow! He put in those sideways smilie faces and when I copied and pasted here the smiley faces work. Man, this guy gets a positive as long as he sends the money this year!

In the same amount of time as he wrote that I could have cut a check and mailed it. I don't even read such emails anymore and thankfully get few.

Doesn't sound like an excuse to me; I wouldn't even use the term non-paying bidder, as that would imply that there was anything serious about him winning your auction; it sounds more like a probable example of auction sabotage - I'll be really surprised if you actually receive payment.

Huh? He did bid on my auction. Sabotage? That's another auction you must be thinking about. This one was for a low dollar amount.
No one finds it funny that he spent so much time writing that email explaining all the stuff I didn't need to know? I thought it was.

When he gets that Mustang out of the shop, he should drive it to Hollywood. They need writers like him.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Well, that IS the best laugh I have had in a LONG time. Personally speaking I suspect the guy is genuine. Psycho $hit like that happens all the time. All of a sudden your perfectly ordered life goes BLAM!
I would give this guy an A plus for disingenousness and an A plus if he is a lying sack of you know what. At least he was a very entertaining chap!
and good ebay outlook fodder!
Too funny!

At least your deadbeats are creative. Mine just put me on ignore...

I love it!
You'll see your money (when, I can't say!)
Personally I prefer these types as opposed to the one that we NEVER hear (or get payment) from!

i wish npbs would put ME on ignore. i once had dozens of those kinda emails overflowing my mailbox. i've read so many variations, that no, i don't think they're humorous. and i guess i got concerned as it seems that loosecannon is mentioning lotsa these types of things.

There is more than a ring of truth to what this bidder is saying. I am in the automotive buisness and am aware of the Ford recall on the 3.8 litre motors. Everything he said about the recall is right on the money so maybe he is telling the truth about his failure to pay on time. Keep the faith maybe you WILL get your money.

yes, I have started 3 threads about this kind of thing in the last week or so, I think. Probably too much, but I'm having a real NPB infiltration. I guess this guy's emails made me think a little bit lighter of the whole thing.

Uh...glad you have your sense of humor. But don't expect much support from this corner next time you grouse about NPBs of any dollar amount (as per your thread of the other day). As long as you keep finding this stuff amusing, don't set payment limits, and dither over whether to file NPBs and use FB to flag slowpays and deadbeats for other sellers, the problem will only grow.

HCQ
I never asked for your support, now did I? Your comments are totally unnecessary. You run your business, and I'll run mine.
OK. I see that not many are in the mood for anything other than Paypal.
And I'll tell you something else HCQ. I have given my share of negs when I've been forced to, and paid the consequenses for it. And I'll leave more if I have to. Don't give me that crap. You don't know me. Got that?

I almost fell of my chair laughing because as soon as I started to read that e-mail I was going to send to my son. He had the same problem with his Ford and I have been listening to him pee and moan long distance (on my nickle). He was told three months to get a motor. He went and bought a new car.
The guy comes across to as sincere but unsophisticated. But on the other hand, I believe every sob story.
I wish I got an e-mail like that once in awhile. It would have made my day. Sometimes money isn't everything. My husband says I'm a lousy business person. I guess he's right.
