thread about how to clean stains that have soaked into porous dishes? It was here several days ago and I thought I would remember it.

Not sure about the thread, but my sister in law collects old flow blue and puts the crazed yucky things in hot water with denture tabs over night. Good as new!

Now you prompted my memory. Thanks! I thought someone had said something about peroxide.

Don't wash the piece. Drop it directly into a bucket of 20 or 30 volume clear peroxide (the stuff for hair coloring, the white creme won't work). Let it soak for about a day. Don't dry it off. Stick it in the oven at about 200 to 250 for about 20 minutes. Turn off the oven and let it cool down. There should be gunk on the surface, (don't let the color of the gunk gross you out). Wipe off as much as you can without water, and then wipe the piece with a damp cloth or sponge. Put the piece back into the peroxide and keep doing the process until there is no more gunk on the piece when it comes out of the oven. The piece can then be washed. The peroxide does not damage or lighten the old aniline dyes. Make sure you have lots of open windows and ventilation, wear rubber gloves, goggles if you have them, long pants, and a long sleeved shirt. This stuff can and does burn your skin. This doesn't work on porcelain or dense, highly vitrified china, like restaurant ware. I get the peroxide from a beauty supply house by the gallon. It is about $8.00 to $10.00.

Thank you so much! That was the answer I was looking forever. However, I have it soaking now in my husband's denture tablets. He doesn't know. If that doesn't work I'll get the peroxide, and if that doesn't work, I'll just become a brassy blond.

I hope the denture tablets work. It has been my experience that the peroxide doesn't work as well after other attempts at cleaning, in particular with other chemicals. Let us know how it works.
