I have tried to sell a video tape that was new and unopened. I thought it was a great tape, but it never sold.
I cut the starting price lower by 50 cents and changed the S&H from:
"S&H is $3.20 priority mail, insurance is optional and extra."
To: "S&H is $4.40 priority mail, includes insurance."
Now I have 2 bids and it is up higher than I expected.
Go figure.
BTW,
I use my own bubble rap, I never use news paper to wrap items.

yes I discovered two things the way its stated in the listing makes all the difference as well as to much information and TOS.
I started a while back when listing items with 4 or 5 lines on the item and about 20 lines on payment options shipping dates 10 days to pay after action ends and so on sales just went dead with this set up as soon as I droped the endless TOS the items just sold same as ever.
useing the KISS Principle works best replys and payments come faster when you dont set limits.
and people under stand when you tell them in EOA that if payment arrives mid week shipping wont happen untill saturday morning.
even those paying with CC understand this.
and I have yet to receive a complaint on handleing fee of $2 or less all adds as a total simply stated Buyer Pays S/H of x.xx

I agree...simpler works! I am continually looking for ways to make things as simple as possible for my bidders.

I ran a dutch category feature once and wouldn't you know it mr lowball comes along the next day and puts the same item up at a lower price, but with higher shipping. Mine was actually the better deal on the total price, but everyone bought his because it looked cheaper at the listed price.
I guess most bidders don't bother to figure in the shipping when bidding.

I have found that video tapes sell for better prices and have more bids if First Class Mail is a shipping option. Two go rounds with bubble wrap and 3 times around with brown paper makes for a light but secure package at an economical shipping price.
