About a month ago I posted about an expensive doll that was accidentally damaged in a shop in a small town in NJ. The State Police were called and a report taken and both parties gave statements to the State Police officer. The shop owner pressed foward and filed in Small Claims court. Since that filing both parties were contacted by Mills Lane (judge Mills Lane of TV fame) and this case will be heard by him for filming for his show. The filming is currently set for next Monday in NYC. Updates to follow.

I'm not familiar with the show. Is it available on one of the national networks, or is it on cable/satellite? I'm sure we would all like to watch it!

For those of you who don't know this, (we didn't until recently), the court shows themselves pay the awarded monies of the settled suits.
I know this because my husband's niece ended up going before one of the TV courts (not sure which one off hand, it hasn't aired yet), and she won the settlement, but the young man who was the defendant got off scott free. She got her money, but the TV showed paid it.

I seem to remember a case similar to this one on Judge Judy. A customer knocked over some kind of stained glass window, either damaging or breaking it. The store owner tried to get the customer to pay up, but Judge Judy, I believe, ruled something to the effect that it was the shop owner's responsibility to make sure such an expensive object was out of harm's way and not a hazard to a customer brushing past.
Anyway, that's what this situation reminds me of. Maybe it will go the same way. Can't wait to see it!

The store owner informs me that each party is receiving $400 in appearance money with no guarantee that this particular case will actually be aired. I'll be happy to post the result of what is supposed to be next Monday's trial/taping.
