Ya know, I’ been searching...
But eBay’s “SEARCH” function indexing seems to be running w-a-y behind: like 12+ hours. The Announcement Board noted that there were indexing issues on 09/20/00 but never clarified if they were resolved. Apparently they are NOT!
I don’t like 10-day auctions but what I hate even more is running 7-day auctions that are only 5-day auctions ‘cause no one sees them for 48 hours!
You know, I would rather have the basic stuff working than having all this new crap rolled out all the time. I really don’t give a rat’s ass about Photo Hosting, Free Counters!, Disney Auctions, that “EBAY VISA COMMERCIAL WINS “BEST SPOT” AWARD!”,or “...that today eBay launched our "Digital Opportunity Program for Seniors," a major initiative which will help senior citizens nationwide overcome the “digital divide” by giving them easy access to technology and education. “(09/26/00)
Quite frankly, I’m more interested in eBay bridging the digital divide between the items I have listed and my potential customers!
All these other things are not doing a DAM thing for MY auctions!

I've been running several searches myself over the past few days, and I'd say it's more like 36+ hours behind. Yesterday afternoon I was still only getting items from 9/28. Late last night, I =finally= was getting things from 9/29. Haven't looked yet this morning, but if I'm lucky I'll be able to see stuff that was put up early on 9/30. Ugh.

Did ya'll know that if you scroll to the very very bottom of a search results page and look at the left-hand side, the date and time of the last search update is shown? Right now it says "Last updated: 2000-10-01 03:11:34"
To see the date that the category index was last updated, click on a category listing and it's in the upper right-hand corner. Right now it says "Updated: Oct 01, 2000 07:15:57 PDT"

I suspect that the date/time shown for search is the title search update time, not the descriptive search update time, which (simply because there is a whole lot more info to index) runs much slower.
For a while now, if you search for words that appear only in the title (description NOT checked), items will come up. BUT if you search for those same words with description CHECKED, it won't return those items until later (because you're searching two different databases, and the item hasn't made it into the bigger description search database).
Anyway, I do agree with you - I'd much prefer that the core functions work reliably and consistently, and wouldn't mind a moratorium on new eBay "stuff" until they are. But on the other hand, it's different departments that are coming up with these things; eBay can't exactly shuffle the people from the PR department, for example, into the Engineering department to work on the core functions.
