When I checked my X.Com account today, I noticed that the $375 line of credit was gone. So I called X.Com this morning and got through to a live person (!) and was informed that all credit lines have been eliminated. I was told that the president of the company sent out EMAILs on Friday (never got it) and that he was concentrating all his resources on PayPal, and that the credit lines were costing him too much. I really enjoyed using X.Com because you got checks plus a VISA card and I kept the account as a my little stash of "mad money" from auction income. I am very disappointed and am planning on closing the account. I'll keep my PayPal account but does anyone have any recommendations for a different on-line bank?

I've tried other online services and none of them even come close to Paypal or X.com. The only reason I liked my "line of credit" through X.com was because I didn't have to worry about overdrawing my account. But oh well, I will just have to be extra careful not to do that anymore. I'm keeping my X.com account - it comes in very handy - and it's *free* and easy to use.

If you are requiring an bank with an automatic line of credit I've no recommendations.
CompuBank has overdraft protection... but it's not a line of credit, you have to have another account registered, if you exceed your balance they'll withdraw from the other account you specify (minimum $100 transfer)
No fees on the interest bearing checking account as long as you keep the balance over $1000.00.
Basically this isn't a recommendation, just letting you know that the x.com account still isn't a bad deal. Please post if you find a bank with better rates and terms.

I have found a good online bank, its called Everbank.com. Free online checking, free atm, free overdraft protection. FDIC insured.

Since, like everyone else, I'm checking into other online banking options just in case, I checked everbank.com. For us "small time" sellers, who use this bank account only to transfer online payments to, everbank isn't exactly free.
Their terms:
</b>You may open your EverMoney e/Checking Account with as little as $500. And your EverMoney e/Checking Account is free of monthly service fees provided you maintain a minimum average daily balance of just $1,500. However, in order to cover the cost to everbank.com of this extraordinary account, in any month that your average daily balance falls below $1,500 no interest is paid and a $4.95 service fee applies. By maintaining an average daily balance of $1,500 or more, your account is completely free of monthly service charges and you earn one of the nation's highest yields on a bank checking account. Fair?
If you can find a better deal on an account that comes with Unlimited No-Fee check writing, free online banking, National ATM access, unlimited free online bill paying, and more, then you should take it. (And please let us know about it.)
Oh well, I guess that leaves me out-if anyone finds any FEE FREE bank, please post.

I think I wil stick with X.com just checked out everbank $500 min to open a account they ask you keep a $1500 monthly balance to get interest and for it to be free if you dont have $1500 there is a $4.95 monthly charge.
mind you I dont know about anyone else but I opened my x.com account with $20 x.com gave me I got my $1000 line of credirt with out a credit check I never used it they took it away no harm or loss to me at all.
if worse comes to worse I can get online banking with our local bank cheaper and open the account for far less.
and get the debit card and LOC.

Security First Network Bank - www.sfnb.com was the first online bank and it has free checking and bill paying if you have any auto deposit going into the account. It is in Atlanta but owned by the Royal Bank /Canada and they offer very good service to Canadian Snowbirds. They have web banking that uses no resident software. I have had a problem with them sending real late e-mails.Like a couple weeks. No overdraft that I remember but I was not looking for that.
I'm still sticking with x.com, it still holds the advantage for me. Netbank gives no ATM rebates and offers no 'free ATM' machine locations in my state.

Here's another reason to dump x.com, they will now be imposing a 12 dollar monthly accounting fee on accounts of less than $100.
