I've never used PayPal and I'm making up a new template for my auctions. I don't know whether to include PayPal in the template or not. What are the pros and cons to using this service? What's been your experience? For that matter, is it easy to use? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!!!

PAYPAL AND PRIORITY MAIL ARE TWO OF THE BEST FREINDS FOR E-BAY AUCTIONERS. PAYPAL IS VERY EASY TO USE AND OVER HALF OF MY CUSTOMERS PAY WITH PAYPAL THE SAME DAY AS THE AUCTION ENDS.THE NEW FEE'S ARE NOT TO HIGH BUT I COULD LIVE WITHOUT THEM. TO BAD PAYPAL COULDN'T.YOU CAN TRANSFER CASH INTO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT FROM PAYPAL QUICKLY. TWO TO THREE BUSINESS DAYS.SOME CUSTOMERS WILL ALMOST DEMAND THAT YOU TAKE PAYMENTS THRU PAYPAL AND I THINK PRICES GO A LITTLE HIGHER WITH PEOPLE KNOWING THAT THEY CAN USE THEIR CHARGE CARD. I SAY DO IT.

I agree completely. 75 to 80% of the payments I get are via PayPal. Monies received are in my bank account within 3 days. Yes, the new fees are crummy, but it is true that bids are higher. I figure they ore than offset the fees. I will continue with PayPal and will continue to suggest it to fellow auctioneers. JMHO

If you don't have an easy to spell address it would be worth getting one first. I have had a lot of misdirected payments because people can't spell ameritech.

HARDER states:

"PAYPAL AND PRIORITY MAIL ARE TWO OF THE BEST FREINDS FOR E-BAY AUCTIONERS.

There is also a 3rd "best friend" for eBay auctioneers: a keyboard that doesn't have the CAPS lock stuck on...

PayPal is great for those who like instant gratification, and I haven't had any problems with it yet (knock on wood). There's really something to be said for getting paid within hours after an auction ends and being able to mail the item the next day. Fast fast fast!

Oh agree. We are an instant gratification population. Face it. I have no idea whether I will or not stop using it. But I certainly remember how I was introduced to it, and had to be dragged there kicking and screaming and then I liked it. They seemed honest. They seemed okay. I will probably keep it, I'm not a very big threat to them or they me.
And again, instant gratification.
I have never had a problem transferring money from there to my bank account. If that changes for some reason, I'll rethink this again. That is the only thing that would really make me suspicious that they are not what they seemed to be when I was introduced back in June.

It's always something.

I USED to use Paypal. Now I use Paydirect and Exchangepath. Not happy with the way palpal has handled things these last frw weeks and I don't want to support a company I have no respect for. Haven't closed the account yet, but plan on closing it by the 16th if not before.

Down!

I was a cheerleader for PP from the start. Loved it!

About 80% of my customers use it.

I would pay the charges for charge cards as this is what PP claims they need to offset, but I really resent that they "forgot" to include in their letter that they are charging for all transactions if you have a business/premiere account. Every transaction. Transactions from Checking. Transactions sitting in someone's PP account being sent to you.

You have to go and dig this out of the auction site yourself.

I like PayDirect and ExchangePath.
Energyflow and Bidpay for international customers.

2 Thumbs UP! Way Up! They may charge a little, but I honestly feel I get more bids at higher amounts because buyers like PayPal because it is instant and handy and I like it for the same reasons!

Just be sure that you have the FULL fee schedule information--including what was NOT in the e-mail this morning.

"Two Thumbs Up or Down for PayPal"
How about a middle finger !! In my state *ALWAYS FREE means just that. As soon as PayPal charges me 1 cent I will be off to court with them. Bait and swith is illegal in lots of states. I'm sure the fees are resonable, but the means that PayPal used to gain these fees are illegal. I refuse to be set up like this.

Sunday night, I had $650.00 worth of items close on eBay. By Monday night, $300.00 had been paid for via PayPal. I'll say no more.

At present my thumbs are poised...

After the recent mess at PP, I have decided on a wait & see attitude. My account is still open, but I am not currently accepting PP. I will wait a few months to see if they can keep their noses clean--and by that I mean no lies, maintaining a stable site that doesn't change it's TOS every other week & that abides by the TOS they do have, and no constant barrage of complaints by users who have had their accounts restricted, frozen or whatever by PP. If all that comes to pass I will consider using them again.

But because of this whole PP fiasco, I am now *very* leery of similar providers. I'd prefer to stick to good old checks & MOs, thank you, than put my trust right now on sites that I can't put trust in.

Ok thumbs are fine but if you other fingers get involed here wont this would be getting personel.

I give paypal thumbs up.

you could go the payplace route here but I have had payplace since march and no ones has ever paid with it and even if they did you can only get your money from them $200 at a time

if you want loads of out of pocket shipping costs and profits tied up in payplace go for it me I cant afford that ill stick with paypal and get mt direct deposits in any amount I want any time I want and have them in my bank ready to use in two days time

Hi Everyone: The comments are great! One question comes to mind. Do PayDirect, ExchangePath and EnergyFlow have fee schedules? Can you do direct deposit from their sites to your bank? Are there any restrictions such as only withdrawing $200. at a time? Thanks!

PayPal baaaaaddddddd. Yahoo Paydirect very good. ExchangePath Excellent.

Edited to add:

ExchangePath lets you accept VISA, MC, Discover, American Express, and Diner's Club. You can withdraw your funds to your bank account (without the verification fiasco) or directly onto your credit card. And best of all it's free (at least for now). No, I take that back. BEST of all (at least so far): NO LIES!!!

I am not sure if we can post the links or not, but here you go:
Paydirect
http://auctions.yahoo.com/phtml/auc/us/promo/paydirect.html

Exchangepath
www.exchangepath.com

EnergyFlow
www.energyflow.com

I use PayDirect and I know of no restrictions on amounts. You can transfer to CC or bank account. They state they have the right to charge in the future.

ExchangePath I have used also--same as above, but also takes AMEX, Discover and Visa and MC Debit Cards, Diners Club, etc. They do state that they will have fees in the future.

EnergyFlow--No one has used this one yet, so I can't say for sure. One thing is that there is a cost to the buyer when they use this service which accepts all CC's and international business.

I get fifty emails a month touting "accept credit cards, your business sales will increase x%." Whatever! My sales have actually gone down since using paypal, although it is more seasonal/market reasons and not related to paypal. I'm just saying paypal is not a magic formula to increase sales. If you're selling expensive items, you should accept some sort of CC service and paypal is about the best there is right now. If you sell inexpensive things, it's totally optional to accept paypal, and something that is not really needed as a seller but is convienent for buyers.

I'm only using paypal as a payment option listed in my TOS, that's it. I hope no one uses it anymore but they can if they choose to. God, America is great!
