I'm thinking about trying to auction some hand painted lighting fixtures. I did one for my livingroom and everyone says how great it is. I know, everybody thinks they're talented. Anyway, does anyone have experience with this kind of thing? Or are most buyers looking for collectibles/vintage/antique stuff? These would be new fixtures (ceiling for instance) that I hand paint the shades with whatever...mine has roses. Bad or good idea?

Thats called innovative! I would photograph the one you made for yourself and see what happens. You can always make another for yourself and if it doesnt sell then you dont lose anything. and if it does well you may well be on your way to FULL TIME EBAY.

Thanks for the smart advice. I hadn't thought of that. No sense in investing alot of time (even though I love doing it), if they never go anywhere. But wouldn't it be great if they did? Thanks also for the encouragement!

For what it's worth I've noticed that anything with roses on it does very well, especially if you add everyone's favorite descriptive phrase Shabby Chic. Your items probably don't qualify but maybe you should think about it. Check out things with roses on eBay and you'll see what I mean.

Nikonette -- Are you refering to "reverse painting on glass'? If so, it looks very cool. I have done it to ceiling fan light shades. I live in FL and the house is full of fans with lights. Go to any Home Depot and try to find a globe in anything but white! I have run across globes with flying duck stickers on them...
