I received an eBay inquiry from a verbally economical individual. His curt reply to my
latest response was simply: ÿþ<
Is that supposed to mean something? Have I just been razzed? Is this computer lingo of some sort? Help...anyone?

Well, I'm not sure but...it kinda looks like he was frowning & sticking out his tongue at you. Did you do anything to tick him off?

My parents have a friend that is physically challenged. Every once in awhile they (and me as well) receive an email containing nothing but that collection of characters you've noted. When asked he says that he hasn't sent us an email. My thought is that he may use some special software to help him with his typing and is hitting a few buttons at once, resulting in these strange emails. That's all I can figure. Could that be the case with your person?

Bunnicula, I can't even see that image through Picasso's eyes. I thought I gave him good advice. I'll just assume it's a glitch of some sort. Unless, it's Borg talk.

I wonder if there is some kind of new virus out there.

Yesterday a customer replied to an email I sent in reply to a question from him...his reply looked just like what you got.

I replied..."I'm confused. What does your email mean"

His comment was "Darned if I know what that is..I sent an email with words and everything"

I have gotten a few emails like this recently...from different customers.

I sent an email the other day and the person emailed me back that that was all he got in my email. It may have been this computer, let him know you didn't get the message.

Ever get an e-mail message with "=20" after each line? Sometimes my e-mails to my bidders show up that way.

Never have been able to figure that one out! (Have always had a current virus scanner, so I don't think it's that).

Weird.

There was another question, with answer, about this a couple weeks (?)ago but I don't have a clue to tell you how to find it. It was a computer glitch - software? Netscape? Sorry, I don't remember but it's here somewhere.

The "ÿþ<" you received is a bug in the reply function of Outlook Express. Generally that would be at the top of the reply, with the actual email below it.

It sounds like they hit send before they typed their answer.
