Cliffs of Dover singing: "PayHell sucks! Payhell sucks!"
I am very depressed and saddened by the whole PayHell/X(cess fees).com mess.
5 weeks ago I was singing the praises of X(cess fees).com as the best bank I've ever had! After all, they gave me a FREE checking account (gone!); ATM rebates (gone!); a $500 OD account (gone!)-- In 2 (TWO) weeks, this account went from SUPER to a TOTAL JOKE!
5 weeks ago I was singing the praises of PayHell -- now they cost almost the same as BillPoint, without the LIGIMATICY! Without the same TRUST!
SG52 was right! And I was wrong!
What is it about the Internet that breeds this total ARROGANCE?
Can I trust ExchangePath? So far, it has worked GREAT, but does that mean anything? Can I trust PayDirect? The whole thing is just very, I don't know -- SORDID?

You mean you never ran into this sort of arrogance before the Net? In that case, you have led one charmed life.
Can I trust ExchangePath? So far, it has worked GREAT, but does that mean anything? Can I trust PayDirect?
Uh....no. The only party you can "trust" is yourself, and your own judgment as to when to end a business relationship with somebody who just isn't delivering anymore.
The whole thing is just very, I don't know --SORDID?
Yeah, well, that's business, unfortunately. I found the Paypal thing pretty damned cheesy myself, but once I got myself the hell out of there, I was able to find some amusement in their - well, arrogance, as you say. (Kinda like after I left Fatboy, my ex.) You don't come across that sort of duplicity-in-broad-daylight too often. I think amy suggested the Paypal model make it into the MBA textbooks.
I can understand your state right now. Mortifying. But at least you've been a man about it, moved on, and told the world why. Good for you.
posted on October 7, 2000 06:52:42 AMHCQ: My life has been really UNCHARMEDlately! I've truly rarely before ever run into a situation that depends on TRUST & INTEGRITY like this one does that has become (virtually OVERNIGHT) as CHEESEY and downright SLEAZEY as this one did!
When my nice Boston bank merged with a HUGE not-so-nice MONSTER bank, it was a disaster -- HOWEVER, we had a YEAR to prepare & seek alternatives & I found a much better bank to use as opposed to the new BOHEMETH that was being created!
X(cess fees).com's "bank" destroyed itself in a matter of 10 days! PayHell has become a JOKE in a matter of only 30 days!
Hey, I'm educated & I'm old (I went to Amer Bandstand in Philly to give you a clue), but I still try to believe in the basic INTEGRITY of businesses. I know it was foolish, but I BELIEVED in PayHell -- what a GREAT idea that has been SOILED by these slimes at X(cess fees).com!

I'm very sad about PayPal's about face. While it was free I even had links to them in my auction ads. It was wonderful and convenient! Recently I signed up for PayDirect and am planning to sign up for ExchangePath. I even accepted a BillPoint payment last week.
PayPal just has a horrendous marketing plan and an out-of-control group sitting in their ivory tower. I would tolerate PayPal like I do BillPoint, but all the instances of people's accounts being frozen and other nightmares...I can't sleep at night over PayPal anymore. They've lost my trust.

HDQ ... right on! YOU are da bomb!!! I think I will vote for you for president...to heck with gore and bush. I have read a lot of your posts...and you are really right on!!

Chin Up, tomwiii...I hate to see you down! You are such a nice person...
There are still some of us who are trusting, and feel deeply, when betrayed...
Personally, I have given up "online Payments"...Back to Money Orders and Cashier's Checks for high end items and personal checks for lesser items. Never have had a bad check yet...
posted on October 8, 2000 07:31:27 AMShosh Thanks for the "chin-up" -- I'm still a bit flabergasted by the whole PayHell/X(cess fees).com fiasco; it's truly incomprehensible to me!
Radh: A question for you, or any other Billpoint expert:
Well, as I sit here picking the crow feathers out of my teeth, I've decided to offer the ELECTRONIC CHECK option. Soooo. 2 questions --
1) Can you offer ONLY the electronic check feature?
You can offer anything you want. Probably the best way would be to incude a line of text similar to this: I am now accepting payments via BillPoint Electronic Check.
My wife (who takes care of this stuff) just showed me how it works. You can send a Billpoint invoice right from your auction page and you have an option to accept electronic check only.

Billpoint did not work for me--Paypal changed policies in mid stream---now what?
Back to square one accepting MO and personal checks. And guess what--it's working!
It is going to be a long time and want some more positive proof of a co. before I use a third party charge card service again. It's only been 6 months since I used and discarded Billpoint and Paypal. Geesh--makes a poor head spin. My loyalty makes them lots of bucks and I end up getting charged. Live and Learn--Listen!

I think that everyone has it All Wrong about why PayDrekk lied to us. They were about to offer Interest Bearing Accounts. How else did you expect them to pay Interest on your money without first collecting it from you?

Tibetan Buddhism says that the entities we see around us are aspects of our own personality, also the godhead, which appear separated from us. Freud said that those things that we hate most in others are the same things we can't acknowlege in ourselves.
So let's stop blaming Paypal. Like many point out, it's still a good deal. What bothers me is not Paypal's marketing "strategy" so much as my own naivete in believing they were different than any other big company. The way I chuckled when many predicted just this kind of thing would occur. That I believed the promises of their customer support when the handwriting was already on the wall.
Tomwiii, to address your comment, the flip side of Paypal's "arrogance" is our own LAZINESS in taking Paypal at their word. We all should have known better.
I'm not mad. I mean, I can't even understand a person like Elan Musk. If I had $100 million bucks, I'd buy a little island off Jamaica and retire to a life of ease. But he's already looking to start another company. What Musk did with Paypal was half brilliant, half chicanery. I wouldn't trade places with him, because I think what he does is distasteful. But perhaps that's the price of being a multi-millionaire punk upstart: pushing the envelope of conventional ethics. Did he actually take anything from anyone? Isn't he more like Professor Harold HIll in "The Music Man?" They gave me a free service and hundreds of dollars in bonuses. Who's to blame if I refused to read the handwriting on the wall?

Actually, the person I feel most sorry for is PayPalDamon. I believe PPD actually believed what his superiors were telling him. PayPal let PPD run around here reassuring us and making promises of full of sincereity.
I can't imagine how PPD must have felt when he/she got the news that he/she was going to have to face us after PayPal's big betrayal. The reason I can't imagine it is because in my shoes, I would have resigned on the spot. There are plenty of high-paying jobs out there for Internet savvy PR persons from very reputable companies.
As it is, I don't believe a word PayPal says. Now now, not ever again. I'm sorry to say that whatever PPD has to say here anymore is worth the same to my eyes.
But if I could give him/her any advice, I'd tell PPD to starting working on that resume'. I have a feeling that PayPal isn't going to be around for much longer. Any Bank that acted in so treacherous a manner would soon have all of its depositors closing their accounts. And I've seen this sort of thing happen over and over again in the 1980's during the Reagan Recession - start-ups that got a lot of cash, suddenly the majority stock holder 'retires'; e.g. cashes in the chips and can't be reached for a comment; the operation runs a few more months and then total collasp.
Fortunately, I've always dumped my stock in any company that this happens to. I take a loss, but nothing compared to those who hang on until its too late.
spelling

H-E-L-L-O-!!!!!!
Ebays BILLPOINT has and will continue to process chargebacks with their electronic check system.
MY buyer was out of her mind as to what she received and argued her point to her credit card company. She sent me a hand written letter asking for a refund of the item.
Stating her computer was broken down. I refused as it was exactly as stated in the auction...
Billpoint telephoned me personally to advise me that the chargeback was coming.
I could do nothing to stop it.
Anything paid with a credit card can and will be undone.
Fact of auction life.
That was my last time offering Billpoint as a payment source.
Personal checks are fine with me.

"Ebays BILLPOINT has and will continue to process chargebacks with their electronic check system"
If your buyer used a credit card, then you were not using Billpoint's electronic check.
Electronic check is just that -- a draft on the buyer's checking account. Credit cards don't enter into it. And Billpoint does not allow chargebacks with electronic checks.
