New stupid senior moment! I started my auction without the reserve. This is a high dollar (to me) item new in box. I even gave the reserve amount in the description. 7 day auction started last night, already has 2 bids. I have sold this same item twice before (not the exact same one of course) and both times it met the reserve. Should I just let it go and see what happens or stop the sale?

I normally do not put a reserve on items that I know are very desirable to a certain group of buyers. I feel confident it will sell at the proper level. Mine is $200 item and I started it at $9.99. Nerve wracking at times, but could also be a lot of fun.
Let it go.

Wait to the near-end of the auction. If the results doesn'nt satisfy you, cancel all bids first, then cancel the auction.

Because you placed a reserve in the description, you might want to stop and restart with a reserve auction. eBay doesn't honor reserve auctions unless started as one and a reserve in the description doesn't count.
So if it did not meet your desired reserve, you would still be obligated to sell or have to accept the neg that you might get.

preacher4u: That looks like game playing with the bidders, why not stop now?

I think you just might be surprised to find that the item brings more without a reserve anyway. Reserves turn a lot of bidders off.

As usual, I get a multitude of opinions and a lot of good advice here. I think I am going to let it ride and see what happens. I think it will reach very close to the reserve at the very least. We'll see. One way or the other, I'll check better next time. Thanks all.

Although this is allowed, I think anyone who did this would only be doing a good job of pissing off a bunch of bidders who may very well not come back the second time around.

Since you have a reserve in the description, you should "add to description" to say that there is in fact NO reserve.

I say let it go, but that's my opinion. I never use a reserve and I don't like bidding on auctions that have a reserve. I'm trying something new starting this week - everything starts at 99 cents with no reserve, no matter what it is. I've read so many links here of people doing that and I greatly need to clean out our eBay room...
Just my opinion!

Thanks to all. I added the message to the auction and am going to sit it out. So far it is at half the reserve after 12 hours. Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised. I'll let you know.

I may be the Only seller on the EBAY PLANET that NEVER gets the proper bids on a unique item of value when I do not use a reserve. Everyone bids 2 cents higher than the last cheap guy.

Well, we are at day 4 of the auction and it has not hit half the reserve yet. Even though I added that there was not reserve to the description, how many people see that addition where they stick it at? Oh well there is still 3 days to go, we'll see.
