What is happening?!? It can't just be me.

I mailed a large dollar amount check to New York, Priority Mail per the seller's request. That was six days ago and it hasn't arrived.

I did a Non-Paying Bidder Alert on a late customer this morning, who responded "I mailed it two weeks ago." I got the check later on, and it was postmarked 9/28. 12 days for first class mail from Washington state to California? There's something wrong here.

I have gotten literally dozens of "you said you mailed it two weeks ago and it ain't here yet" e-mails from frustrated buyers.

If it's this bad NOW, what's it going to be like in December?

I never had trouble until about 1 month ago. I have had several Priority packages take ages. One took over a week and one is still missing. Another item coming to me took over a week from only abotu 250 miles away. Somebody told me they got screwed up when all their college labor over the summer went back to school. I don't know if it is true but I know we had very young mailmen this past summer which was a first. All this has earned me one neutral and one negative. Folks don't care if it is postmarked the day after the auction and it was out of your hands.

Most of the problems I see with mail are the following:

Handwritten addresses.

Unsealed labels

Lack of Zip+4 code

Lack of Barcode

Small envelopes (use a number 10 envelope to mail payments)

Failure to use apartment numbers

Temporary or substitute carriers

All of my envelopes and shipping labels are Zip+4 barcoded. The difference is between night and day!

I'm still waiting on a Priority package shipped from Wa. on Oct. 4. I shipped to Or. the day before and it only took 2 days. Sunspot activity?

Lots of regular carriers on vacation right now--getting ready for the annual crazieness. Makes a big difference. Can always count on my mail to be late if regular carrier is not on his route.

I've had 2 packages shipped by Priority Mail that took over 1 month to get to my customers. My customers even stated "it was postmarked the day you said it was!" which was over 1 month prior.

At least all my packages have shown up at the destinations... even if they did take a month!

We have been having tons of problems with the P.O. and priority mail lately too! Thank goodness none of it has been Ebay stuff. A few weeks ago we mailed a package of *expensive* stuff to my uncle in Utah (from Arkansas). Dh didn't think to insure it since it wasn't breakable. It took over 2 weeks to get there! We were all sweating. That 2nd week that same uncle mailed a package to us and he mailed it Friday and we got it Monday!

We had another priority package take 11 days to get here a few weeks ago.

I've had several other priority packages take at least 5-6 days. This has just been in the last month, I never have complained before!

Sorry, mballaj, most of your reasons don't seem to qualify here. All labels are done on my label printer, which codes addresses appropriately. I never use small envelopes and I always put two strips of wide clear packaging tape over the label to make darned sure it doesn't come off.

The Postal Service has service standards, did y'all know that? They used to post them in the stations; maybe they still do some places.

snowyegret - what part of WA??? I had problem with package mailed Priority on 10/4 (thurs) to Hermiston, OR and it took 3 business days. Usually only takes 1 or at most 2!

Used Priority Mail box, typed PM label, the whole works. Doesn't bode well for holidays.

Wow, I had a substitute carrier today and got a Priority package. Now I think I need to go find some real wood to knock on...

The post office was closed yesterday which meant HUGE lines today. My local PO has some flooding problems today--we're not used to rain in sunny California.

I didn't make it up to the counter in time today so I will have to try bright and early tomorrow.

I rarely have trouble with items arriving. The few that have trouble is usually a result of incorrect address or zipcode. I have been typing labels lately and haven't had any trouble.

Islander: My package was coming from Sumas. I'm in SW FL. I'm definitely having an incoming mail problem-2 packages mailed in Sept. never arrived and never got my phone bill. I'm using DC and/or insurance on anything that goes Priority.

payments coming by mail has been taking much much longer but it is cheaper than having a business account for the little I do.

I mailed a letter from zip code 98104 to 98106 almost two weeks ago and it hasn't arrived yet. I'm guessing it was because I used black ink on a dark blue envelope and their machine didn't read it... but don't actual people ever look at these things?

I've had a bidder not receive a small textile item in a re-inforced envelope that I mailed almost 3 weeks ago from CA to NY .

The dear man said not to bother with a refund , ( under $5.00) just send him another should I come across one !! What a sweetheart . I'm giving it another week before I do either . It was a vintage item , and I doubt I can easily replace it . He was more concerned about my having to pay eBay listing and FV fees !

Last Christmas , I only had one item take so long , to the East coast again , but it turned up after about 18 days.
