Wow. I just listed my first Paint by number painting and then The Detroit News comes out with an informative article about them. It seems there is a museum exhibit currently and the Smithsonian plans one for this Spring. I've borrowed from the article, which appears on page E1 of today's paper. If I've done this right, you can read my snippet:

There is a Gallery of Bad Art (I think that's the name) in Boston that was reviewed some years back in the Wall Street Journal. "Bad" isn't exactly the right term (which to me implies not just poorly executed, but done without spirit); these are amateur pieces, including a number of paint-by-numbers, that were clearly labors of love into which their creators poured their souls. The results - like Mother's Day breakfast made by the kids - are often hilarious and hideous, but compelling in their own right. I thought the gallery had a website but I haven't been able to find it.
