First time I've checked my account there in months, this was the message. Maybe they are upgrading... don't know.

Thank you for your interest in PayMe.com! We regret to inform you that our site is temporarily unavailable, due to site maintenance. Please check back with us at a later date. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].

The later date makes me scratch my head.

Well, I'm glad they've only got $8 of mine.

Wasn't this this service backed by one of the big banks? Anybody know what the deal is here? Beginning of a shake-up in the "instant payment" business?

Paypal decided that they have to start making some money. How about the rest of the players in this game? Who's got enough backing to be left standing?

At this point, I think they are just trying to figure out how to sell our account info before the repo man shows up.

This service was an absolute joke.

Good riddance...

Payme.com was brought to us by Idealab, the net incubator responsible for eMachines, Goto.com, eToys, and many others.

Honestly, this service was such a joke from the beginning that I don't think its demise reflects on the industry one way or another.

I mean, just the "beaming" funds from one account to another -- the part that's done instantly on Paypal and all other services that I know of -- took at least a week with Payme. I once had a payment that was "pending" for 10 days, I think. And this wasn't a glitch. It's just the way the system worked. I think that the one payment I accepted, it took a total of over 3 weeks from the time payment was made until I had the money available in my account.

Plenty of other major problems as well.
