There are companies you can hire to crate large heavy items like this...I advise it's done prior to listing the item so you can have the shipping/packing cost to enter into your description.
Otherwise, contact UPS and get their advice on packing it yourself...if you use cardboard with lots of padding inside, you can construct boxes pretty easily...USPS long boxes that their priority tube boxes come in are great taped end to end to pack those long side bars for the bed...
You may have to ship more than one box...one for the long skinny parts, and one for the head and foot...

Thanks. I mentioned in the ad for 'local delivery only' as well as all arrangements elsewhere at bidders expense..BUT bidder went ahead and bid to the reserve price.
NOW she wants a 'bargain' to ship.
A virtual impossibility.

UPS will take things like tires and car fenders with no packing if they are safe to handle - no sharp edges to cut the delivery driver etc. Or if you need to you can pad and tape just the edges to protect the drivers.
I would thing you could just bundle the rails and put the foot board and head board in a big plastig bag with a "U" channel of cardboardall around the outside to pad and tape it real well. There is an extra $5 charge for non-standard container just like when you send a bucket or a big plastic bag of bubble wrap.

Would it fit into a box that you ship bicycles in? They should be available at bike shops or discount stores. I know the Railroad has them for shipping bikes on trains.

Tell her that because you stated the auction was for LOCAL delivery only---she needs to make arrangements for the company she wants to use for shipping.
