Just read this from their website
In order to reduce the cost of processing credit card transactions for accounts that do not pay fees, PayPal has introduce a new limit on Personal Accounts: a $500 limit on receiving credit card payments every six months. Payments funded from the sender's bank account or existing PayPal account balance will not count against the recipient's limit.

I knew if I held out from signing up with PP it would show it's true colors...
Buyer's don't like that I use BP, because they are charged a small fee, but I get a money order confirmation and ship the same day...then I know I'm getting a money order...and there are no limits to amounts, and no fees to me.
It works well with large amounts...I'm still searching for something for smaller purchases. I used to accept charge cards directly (with another business) but the fees chip away at profit, some would argue profit is bigger accepting charge cards...
I guess I'm just funny about being charged for accepting a payment...just doesn't sound profitible to me.

I reverted back to accepting cash and checks. So far, so good.

"My name is Shoshanah, and I am a reformed PayPaller..."...and I am constently amazed at how the rules get written up as PayPal rolls along...
That's how I used to play Monopoly...I made my rules to fit me....and my Dad and Mom ALWAYS lost...

zeenza: ditto here. I actually put the following in my new auctions:
PAYMENT TERMS: I kindly request that I receive payment within 14 days of Auction's end. I accept money orders and glady accept personal checks (to be held for 7 business days). I also will accept concealed cash in the instance where the final bid amount is nominal. Due to recent problems I have had with PayPal I am no longer using them.
It is easiest for me when I purchse to write a check, so why shouldn't I accept it from buyers of my auctions?
It seems that some buyers don't want to have to wait for the check to clear, it doesn't bother me at all!!

I don't have an account with PayPal (at least I don't think so) but 3 times a buyer has send me money with PayPal. I have accepted the payment and requested a check be send to me. Is there a limit on these transactions, or is this service still free? The 1st check came without problem, the other 2 are still on their way. Any tips or hints on this? I'm signed up with PayDirect but haven't received payments with them. The buyer automaticly assumed that I take PP and has send the payment this way without asking first. Will I have to sign up with PP if I keep accepting payments through them?

heike55 - if you've been issued checks by PayPal then you do have a personal account with them. You won't have to upgrade your account, though, unless you want to accept more than $500 in credit card payments within a six-month period. Starting today there should be some sort of counter on their site which will tell you how far you have to go before hitting $500. This limit doesn't apply to debit card (bank account) transfers or transfers from an existing PayPal balance (you can have an unlimited number of those).
PayPal recently instituted a fee (I think it's $1.50) for issuing checks. They'll transfer funds directly to your bank account for free, but will charge for mailing you a check.
Clear as mud?

RainyBear - Where did you read about the $1.50 fee for checks? When I asked to have them mail me the checks, there was no mentioning of a fee anywhere. Guess I will refuse payment through PP from now on.

There was a thread about the check fee here a week or so ago, so it's a new thing. It's noted on the PayPal site somewhere, but I can't tell you where offhand, sorry! Hopefully your customers will understand if you don't want to accept PayPal.

PayPal has backpeddled away from the $1.50 check fee. They said they are investigating "other options".
