to be one of their 'field rats'? I could seek out and destroy all auctions for illegal video tapes. They have no idea what's legal and what isn't, even after they have been told
I could use my new found wealth to buy this stuff for my collection over at Yahoo ...

Nope. Ebay hasn't yet "gotten" that it's in its own long-term interests to shut down illegal auctions. As long as ebay can get away with turning a blind eye (and collect the listing/FVFs on this stuff), it has no reason whatsoever to change its practices.
I find it particularly hypocritical that ebay would do away with "used panty" auctions but permit illegal auctions to continue. Apparently ebay's concern for "family values" only goes as far as certain sexual fetishes. Fraud? Theft? Geesh. Why bother about those?

educational software is another major category that there are extensive abuses
especially high end stuff
go to a school and try to purchase software
you need an student ID
go to ebay and see the educational licenses
software being listed--
some are trying to follow the rules but the majority aren't
so one can purchase a 600.00 package for a song in many but not all cases
