First of all, are you sure it's your provider that's interrupting the connection? If the answer is yes, you can try keeping your mail program open and have it check your incoming mail every 10 mins. or so. However, if you are using a free or very cheap ISP, they probably have a way of detecting that technique -- they kick off people who aren't actually using their connection so they can serve more users. Your option at that point is, since you get what you pay for, upgrade to a better ISP.

What a coincidence! After having tried several, free and shareware, I have just found the one I will keep...only $5.00, and far superior to the $20.00 ones...It automatically redials your connection in the event that you should get disconnected (which has happened with all the others I have tried)...
Here is the addy:

It is fast to download, does NOT monkey around with Registry...a little gem..

Have fun..

BTW: the name is Forever Connected

I use cable. I pay for half the cost, and two of us in the house can go online at the same time. I spend so much time online that this was a great solution.

Also with cable, it is faster, and it is always on once you click on the internet. I no longer have to deal with getting disconnected.

It's great, if you can afford it.

Sounds like you need an anti-timer. When I had AOL i used to get soooo steamed. I got kicked off often. Now with Earthlink, I get booted too, but not quite as often. You can purchase an anti-timer for about $10. Just search "anti-timer" and choose the one that is right for you. Also, if you have a lot of stuff running at start-up it can interfere with your net connection. Try closing some stuff when you are online.

eastwest - I used to have you problem quite some time ago. The provider had a 15 minue inactivity timer on their system that would boot me off frequently. There are a couple things you can do. Their system looks for activity of any type. I have a utility called Rascal Pro which simulates activity on your connection and fools the timers. This program is by Basta Computing and can be found at http://www.basta.com/ One nice feature it has is if you should still lose your connection, it will aggressively try to regain it.

Another thing I found that works is to run ICQ. ICQ sends activity packets to their system frequently to let them know you're still connected to display your status correctly. These packets also defeated the inactivity timers.

I've been using galaxy(gis.net)for my isp for about 14 mos. or so and wouldn't have it any other way...I've been "kicked off" only 3x and their system has crashed only once...they don't cost much either...as a backup,I've got that free altavista program, but as you can see from the above,I've only used it 4x...anyway,it's an option for you...

Two programs that work well are "Keep It Alive" and "KillTimer." Both are available at www.nonags.com in the freeware: net apps section.

(whoops!)
