I HAVE JUST ASKED THIS QUESTION AT [email protected] - MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE WOULD LIKE TO ASK THEM AS WELL:

Why on earth do they have a message for their *UNSCHEDULED* maintenance (which was announced on the announcements board) that is taking place on early THURSDAY morning (*NOT* FRIDAY) that reads:

** Our Site Is Temporarily Unavailable Due To Scheduled Maintenance **

We are sorry, but our site is temporarily unavailable due to weekly scheduled maintenance between 01:00 Pacific Time and 05:00 Pacific Time on Friday mornings.

The purpose of these scheduled maintenance downtimes is to make improvements to the system, such as adding new hardware or making changes in software to offer new features. During scheduled maintenance, we try to make improvements as quickly and as safely as possible.

Please check the Announcement Board at http://www2.ebay.com/aw/announce.shtml for updates.

Regards,
eBay

Yes, at least we can vent here (and I did see the other post, but almost missed the title of it), as I tried to post to eBay's boards and can't do it right now. But this is totally outrageous that they have a cookie cutter announcement for Friday AM's scheduled maintenance instead of a customized message saying what the truth really is, that this is UNSCHEDULED MAINTENANCE that is being performed on THURSDAY AM, not FRIDAY AM. I thought I was going batty for minute and it was really Friday and not Thursday. Do they think the people that use their site can't read or are stupid or something? It seems insulting to me...unless they put some moron in charge of putting that message up (which seems to me to be a complete possibility and somewhat scary).

Anyway, if anyone wants to complain to the media, they can write to:

[email protected] -- as I have already done.

The reason the screens say it's "scheduled maintenance" when the announcement board says it's "unscheduled maintenance" is because that's the default and they can point to it with one click.

They probably - logically - don't have one that says "sorry, we crashed" or "sorry, we're trying to keep from crashing."

Well it is a corperate atmosphere there now and I can tell you exactly why nobody sat and typed in an intelligent message. - They would have been responsible for it later. It is cover your butt. No matter what message you left someone would have found fault with it so they used a canned message that did not match. Looks stupid to us but some insiders probably admire that side step. I have worked with lots of people who never made a mistake because they never did anything yet they were constantly promoted. They were stuck on the side of some boss like remorra fish on a shark.
