I got a letter from Ebay Support about these dang outages and they urged me to write to Ebay support, so i did. Wonder what they will say.....
Hello!
Something has GOT to be done about all of the down time at EBAY. This is getting to a point that it is fruitless to even list auctions when most of the time the site is not able to be gotten into. EBAY takes the fees "happily" from sellers, but always seems to find some excuse why they
cannot extend auctions, and then thank us for our patience! I am not patient anymore, and find that this is not a way for a company as large as EBAY to do business. We need *LESS* bells and whistles and more of site stability. These outages are not acceptable to any of the sellers. How can anyone bid if they cannot get into the site? Just common sense for goodness sakes! Ebay put the watch feature in and the snipers use it, but when it is time for auctions to end, they cannot get to the site and we lose money, EBAY loses money and all we sellers get are a bunch of excuses. Our products up for auction sell for way below what they should, and many bidders think we shut our actions down early due to the EBAY outages. This breeds contempt. Something has to be done.
Sellers are up in arms, and to prove this, just go to the EBAY Outlook on Auction Watch and do some reading. Please do something to ensure us, the sellers, that we are at least taken into consideration at some point. EBAY is taking our listing fees and by the time the auctions are over, we HAVE NOT GOTTEN our full listing time as `up time.` This is fraudulant to us the sellers. We are being short changed big time. This is NO way to run a business. Ebay could very easily stop the clock when the site goes down and reset all of the auctions when it is fully functional again. THIS WOULD GIVE US THE TIME WE ARE PAYING FOR IN LISTING FEES!! This is not a big problem to implement and if it is, it is time to get new techs! START ADDING UP ALL OF THE DOWN TIME IN THE COURSE OF A AUCTION RUNNING (7) DAYS AND IT IS WELL OVER THE 2 HOUR OUTAGE TIME eBAY ALLOWS FOR. Sellers are not stupid and we are well aware of the fact that Ebay is short changing us by stealing away our time for launched auctions that you are collecting fees from us for. Give us what we pay for please, and less bells and whistles.
Thank You,

Well, this explains why ebay's been down for so long. They're either "helping" the engineers over at Paypal or they've been working on another upgrade.....
West Coast Air Chaos as L.A. Radar Crashes
Reuters
LOS ANGELES (Oct. 19) - West Coast airports were plunged into chaos on Thursday as a computer crash of radar equipment in Los Angeles grounded hundreds of flights, forcing thousands of passengers to be delayed for hours.
Flights in and out of busy Los Angeles International airport (LAX) came to a halt for 4 1/2 hours and flights were delayed or cancelled in San Francisco, Phoenix, Las Vegas and San Diego, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials said.
Delays backed up across the United States when FAA officials briefly ordered "a national ground stoppage" and the domino effect of late arrivals and cancelled flights continued long after the outage was fixed at around 11:15 a.m. PDT (2:15 p.m. EDT).
FAA spokesman Jerry Snyder said the problem was sparked when computer software equipment processing radar information went down during an overnight upgrade. The computer coordinates air traffic in, out and across the southern California region.
"It may be some time before we find out what caused this to happen. It is the first time it has failed," Snyder said.
He added that the problem never put any lives at risk because an automatic backup system swung into action that ensured the safety of planes already in the air.
At Los Angeles airport, one of the busiest air hubs in the world, officials said all incoming and departing flights had been delayed to some extent.
Southwest Airlines said it cancelled 70 flights, AMR Corp.'s (AMR.N) American Airlines axed 32 and UAL Corp's. United Airlines cancelled 32 flights in and out of San Francisco. Scores of other flights suffered major delays.
LAX spokeswoman Diana Sanchez could not say how many flights had been affected by the radar equipment failure.
"We have had intermittent arrivals and departures. It is not a total shutdown," Sanchez said.
Airlines advised passengers to check before starting out on their journeys.
