I have an auction running and the current bidder has me a bit concerned due to the following reasons:

0 Feedbacks
Sunglasses
A Hotmail Address
AND - currently this person is bidding on 35 different auctions.

Does this send up a red flag for anyone but me?

Hey if it was sending up red white and blue flags I would say the 4th of july was here

When I was at 0 feed back I once bid on over 50 auction one weekend 20 of the bids on the same item I didnt win one infact I never even met one reserve .

check out the auctions they are bidding on this new buyer could be takeing pot shots and reserve auctions.
if this new buyer has many hundereds or thousands in winning bid I would be worried if not they are just testing there new toy the bid window

the sun glasses is because they did what most new users do they changed there user name which always starts out as your email address on ebay and tends to lead to a lot of spam.

The good news is that the Hotmail address indicates that this person was able to provide a valid credit card number in order to register. I'd be far more worried if you'd said it was an AOL address. Give this person the benefit of the doubt. If it gets down to the wire and they're winning a lot of very pricey auctions, you might contact some of the other sellers to see if the bidder is responding to EOA notices and possibly paying with PP or some other CC service.

I believe Hotmail requires an original email address like earthlink or AOL...been awhile since I signed on.

A newbie has no track record and it could be a second ID of someone with great feedback.

I can't look at any bidder and know what's in their bank account. Especially a newbie. How do you know this? Do tell!

Take a chill pill. The auction ain't even over yet.

When you change your name at eBay and get the sunglasses, that starts your feedback over at zero, right? I mean, you can't carry it over from your former name.

Mballai: I wasn't saying that I could tell what's in their bank account just by the data I mentioned. I just thought that a lot of the factors I mentioned didn't look good. I was afraid this person had a bad rep on eBay, switched names, and then started over again.

Also, anyone can open as many Hotmail accounts as they want. You don't have to show proof of anything.

*shrug* honestly, I don't think 35 auctions is too much. When I was new, I bid on a whole lot more. At least it's a hotmail account and not an AOL account. You know they had to provide a valid cc to register.

Frack, I used to have Hotmail, and my son has it, and we NEVER had to give a credit card number. What's up with that?

I dont beleave your feed back starts over just because you change your accounts user name no if that was the case Im sure there would be many powerseller with very low feed back and some with 0

as long as you changed the user name and didnt make a new account you keep your feed back.

I was pulling your leg on the account scenario.

I don't think you have a thing to worry about in any event...many of the "newbies" I've dealt with were actually starting secondary buying accounts on eBay to keep their buys separate from their selling.

To register on ebay with a hotmail account, you need to give ebay a cc to verify yourself.

Muriel:

In the past year or so ebay changed their rules and requires a credit card if you want to register with a "free" email addy. The idea being if you register with a non-free one, presumably your ISP has your credit card and you can be tracked that way. Does this work to improve security and reduce deadbeats? who knows...

Muriel,

I just changed my ebay name over the summer and had sunglasses for 30 days, but my feedback stayed with me.
